After market head unit messing up dash lights??

The dash lights on my jeep have been reseting while driving, ie I'm driving down the road and they all come on like I'm just starting the car. I dropped it off at the Jeep Dealership today and they told me that it's because I have an aftermarket radio installed.

Now I'm sure most guys on here have aftermarket radios, do you guys have any of these issues?

If the radio was installed correctly, that's not it. Even if it wasn't, still pretty sure that's not your problem.

Re: After market head unit messing up dash lights??

Thats BS. Typical lazy service dept to blame it on the customer. I have the same problem with the stock radio. and so far I've replaced the ignition switch, multi-function/headlight switch, and an abs module now parts are on order for there next attempt and there picking up the tab on this one.
I got a very helpful tip from a forum member go to Jeep.com and register as an owner then log in. You should see the service records on your GC. I found that mine had a long history of elect problems prior to my purchase. I'm going to use this info to request a refund of all repairs so far.
I wish you the best of luck.

ACPRO - thanks for that tip!

I agree, this is total BS to blame it on an after market radio. I'm sure I'm not the only Jeep owner with an after market radio in the world. Just sucks that I had to drop $100 for to tell they can't do anything about it.

Check you're Illumination and dimmer wires at the radio. If you have something backwards there you could have lighting issues.

Also, what harness did you use? Its possible its a bad harness, i've seen it a bunch in GM's with there LAN data system. The Module that integrates into your LAN system could be bad. A bad harness will cause some funky stuff to happen in those trucks. Havent seen much in the jeeps though, but i do like a 25-1 ratio of GM's due to the area i'm in.

Re: After market head unit messing up dash lights??

Thanks for the feedback. I do not have the dimmer or illumination wires connected simply because I know 2 types of current flows and don't want to cause problems.

I purchase a harness from Best Buy. I'm 99% positive that it does not integrate the LAN system, because with the factory radio when I shut the car off it would stay on till a door was opened. Now the radio turns off with the car.

I also ran the power wire to a random switched wire under the driver side dash. Wonder if that could cause the problem? Could someone tell me the color wire they tapped into for the switched power on their after market head unit?

Thats your problem right there, you've got the wrong harness. The harness that you should've gotten would've been a Metra XSVI-6502. That harness integrates into the CAN-BUS (not lan, thats my fault, was thinking chevy) and gives you the retained accessory power output. R.A.P is what you had before where you could shut the car off and the radio would stay on for 30 seconds or so or until you opened the door.

God knows what wire you've tapped into, if anything, i'd reccommend tapping into the acc powered cig plug right on your dash and not some random wire under the drivers dash.
