Back up camera install

I want to install a back up camera kit in my 05 WK. I already have the Mygig RER installed with lockpick, etc. and all is working fine. My question in the liftgate lightbar. Can I use the stock lift handle and cut a hole for the factory kit or do I have to get a liftbar that has the hole in it from the factory? Also, do I need to go to a dealership to activate the camera function once installed or will the Mygig work ok after connecting everything?

I would love to see this happen, it sounds like I want to do everything you are doing to get the backup camera on the 05.

How did this job turn out? I just installed an aftermarket camera to a Lockpick, but my radio isn't here yet, did you have to go to the dealership?

Re: Back up camera install

Anyone do this yet? I hooked up the camera to the RCA cable and the ground and power wire on the lock pick but the camera wont work. After it was hooked up the sound in the unit actually stopped working so I unhooked what i did with the rear camera and the sound came back! Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Back up camera install

you've probably already installed your camera. but better late than never....lol U gotta have some balls to do it, but I drilled out one of my bottom holes in the in my plate. there is a mounting tab for the plate....I drilled that out too. the camera mounts from the inside of the rear door thru a rubber grommet. If you ever take it out you can block the hole with a sealing grommet and the plate would hide everything. Honestly, you'd have to really look to tell there is a camera there.

Re: Back up camera install

I actually did my whole setup a while back, and it worked out great. No need for outside help. I put the camera in the plastic above the hitch receiver. I didn't have the required anatomy to start taking metal away at the time, and it actually works pretty well this way. It's definitely in the line of fire for trailering damage, but it's a camera, so it's pretty easy to see what your doing.

Re: Back up camera install

Nice to see you got it working!! I had mine mounted in a blindspot mirror housing lol.. Looked factory as hell, but living in the city, on a main st with lots of foot traffic....someone's always gotta mess with your sh** Came out only to find the camera hanging by wires... I was so pissed: and that gave me the idea of hidden cam.
