I actually installed a line level knob up front so i can manually control my sub when i want.

But i hear ya on the long drives... it can get annoying.

yup, on my double Din i can just push the music icon and the sub control is right there. very simple integration with music.

On another note i also had the alpine imprint processor, but sold it before i changed speakers and amplifiers. I feel it would really make the sound perfect.

I got mine for 600 on Ebay. The only hard part was bypassing the video/ settings in motion feature. without the two wires hooked up you can't even access the settings. Alpine has a new technology that requires the brake petal and EBrake to be pushed in a sequence to know that its not being bypassed. I had to get the PAC bypass module to effectively bypass the system. Other then that the radio is great. I love it.

The gain control up front isn't really the best way to control the sub output. Turning up the knob to turn up the base can introduce much more distortion than the sub needs/can handle and turning it down and actually give the sub too little power. The sub control through the head unit (if possible, turning down the bass on a stock HU) is the safest method for the sub.

Just my 2 pennies...

Re: Custom Stereo Install- Amp Bypassi PICTURES

X2. Gain is simply used to compensate for the lack of signal from the HU.

When the sub just won't go any louder, turning up the gain will only blow the driver of the woofer

The knob does nothing but attenuate the line level signal fed from the LOC... how could that possible introduce more distortion if its passive? Passive meaning NOT POWERED! My sub has ZERO distortion regardless of where i turn the knob up or down to. That's because i have my amp set at roughly 1/2 gain, just enough to keep the sub from reaching its peak rated output.

You must be thinking i have something else installed.

This is what i have, its simple yet does the job:

Re: Custom Stereo Install- Amp Bypassi PICTURES

Ah you have an RCA adapter... We all figured you had a gain control knob

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions next time... and its not an RCA adapter its a "remote level control knob"

and if you read my first post, it said: "I actually installed a line level knob up front".

Yea the head unit has nothing to do with the gain. Mine is set to 10/15 and it has no distortion even at max volume. The gain on the sub amp is set a tiny bit more then half. I also have a second battery and noticed after it was added that i could actually turn the gain down on the sub. If the gain on the head unit is set to 0 i won't even be able to hear the sub, even if the sub amp gain is set higher.
