So finally after some waiting all my equipment arrived and it was time to do some serious installing.
Components of system:
-Alpine PDX-f4 4 channel amplifier
-Kicker 6.5 Components -REAR 100w rms
-Kicker 6.5 Components -FRONT 75w rms
-Kicker 3.5 Midrange - Dash speakers 30w rms
-AudioPipe 3 way passive crossover
Wiring:
-4AWG from amp to second battery in trunk which is running in parallel to the starter battery
-Monster 16awg speakers wire 50ft - ran to every speaker
-Monster 4 channel RCA combined cable
Equipment Used:
-2' hole saw
-Dremel
-Door panel popper
-velcrow
-various tools
-6x9 to 6.5 adapter
-6.5 spacer
After deciding on all the equipment and looking at all the audio specs i had a problem. I wanted to still make use of the 3.5 Dash speakers. After looking the internet for a long time i came across the kicker 3.5 midrange speaker which ran at 30W RMS. the problem was i did not want to run this speaker separate from the two front channels. On Ebay i discovered the AudioPipe 3 way passive crossover. I did not think audiopipe was a good brand at all but after hearing some good reviews on the crossovers i decided to just wing it lol.
Problems with install:
Very hard to run 16awg speaker wire through the rubber grommets in the back doors. where the rubber connects to the actual car frame the jeep has a wiring connector which basically takes up all the room. I managed to work around this by sticking a flat head screwdriver into the plastic grommet and gently feeding the speaker wire past the oem wiring harness. Other then that the install was pretty straight forward except, the front door. This was because i had to run a power wire from the amp into the door and another wire from the 3 way crossover back into the car and into the dash speakers.
The kicker 3.5 speakers were a little tall in the dash so i took a dremel and gently shaved down the little honeycomb pattern in the center of the speaker grill. This gave me just enough room for the covers to fit perfectly.
Old Front speakers
New 3.5 in dash
Part of the grill that needed to be dremel'd down
Kicker Crossover mounted in rear door
Just used some industrial strength Velcro
Tweeter mount locations for front door
Alpine Headunit
Kickers in front door
4 channel amplifier, second battery, and sub amp
Rear door tweeter location
Audipipe front crossover woofer, mid, tweeter
View of midrange and tweeter in front
Front Tweeter
Kicker 3.5 Midrange
Rear door flush mount
After these pictures were taken i have aded curved mounting rings for the front tweeters.
System really sounds amazing, more then i ever hoped for. The hard part was really just fine tuning the amplifier with the HZ selection.
