Been a long time since I visited these here parts and hopefully will have a uneventful return with this project. I've caught the prepping bug so to speak and I'm working on my communications setup. In case of emergency I plan on having several ways of communicating and CB radio is one of those items that doesn't rely on any infrastructure.
I bought a Cobra Digital 29 LX CHR LE CB https://www.cobra.com/products/profe...l/29-lx-chr-le
off Amazon for less than $100. I plan on having it tweaked some, but not a lot. I also bought a Wilson Little Wil antenna, to mount on roof of the WK. Now here comes the tricky part, where to mount said CB radio. There's only two ways to do it, quick and dirty (Place mounting bracket anywhere and power it up) or make it look like it factory. I dislike the quick and dirty option all together. So that leave me with look factory as much as possible. The radio dimensions are H 2.49 x W 7.60 x D 8.6 inches.
#1. Below pocket on left hand side of steering wheel, down where left leg would be. Cut out opening and setup mounting bracket behind that panel. Also cutout hole and affix speaker grille to allow on board CB speaker to be heard
#2. Buy used temp control bezel off eBay 05 07 Cherokee Commander Bezel for Climate Temperature Control Unit | eBay
, cutout opening at bottom where cigarette lighters are, relocate cigarette lighters.
#3. Buy 05-06 navigation bezel off eBay 05 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee Navigation Radio Bezel Dark Khaki New Mopar Genuine | eBay
and mount CB below CD player. Probably need a dash kit for navigation bezel to tweak for mounting of both CB and CD player.
Options 2 and 3 will require an external speaker. I have a couple ways to fix that problem. I already ordered a 3.5mm male to male cable that can be used to connect to my UE Mini Boom that I could use as an external speaker. My other option is to mount a speaker behind instrument panel, creating a hole and speaker grille for speaker. I seen this idea on a separate unnamed Jeep forum.
Any thoughts that are constructive to this project are welcome.
