Question Good day to all of you...radio question

This is my first time and I'm thrill to be a member of this group. I worked for Chrysler as Tool Designer for 31 years and now I'm retired. I do have a 2008 Grand Cherokee Laredo 3.0 L. Diesel Engine. I'm very proud to be owner of this great car. Now this is my dilemma: I want to buy install a RER GPS Navigation -Radio in my car. I do know that all Jeeps from 2007 till 2010 are of LOW SPEED. Nevertheless when I look for a unit to buy for my car, I did notice that some units off market are classified either Low or High Speed. The question is: Any unit of LOW SPEED that covers the year from 2008 up to 2010 is good for my Jeep? . Some of those units they have, on their Part Number, at the end, some Alphabetical letters such as AB, AC, AI, AH, etc. Does it make any difference as long as those units are of LOW Speed? . Looking forward for your response. Thank you, in advance, for your assistance.

Re: Good day to all of you

Thank you for welcoming me to this forum. Nevertheless my question was not answered and I'm wondering about the issue due to that I'm prepared to buy a unit OEM GPS Navigation - Radio of Low Speed. My concern still there and my question was, and still is, does the letters found at the end of the part number means anything of I need a unit in which must end with particular letters?

First off welcome! Looks like the mods have moved you to the correct section for your Jeep (WK).

I can't answer the first question, but I can answer the second. The AB, AC, AI, AH, etc refers to the OEM installed map version for the WK. I believe that the most up to date version (last I checked) is AK (you can check the current version on the Navteq (vendor) website).

You'll note that this only refers to the OEM installed map, when it's possible that the units could have been updated since then. I think updated maps run about $120ish from Navteq.

Hopefully someone will chime in for compatibility options for the RER.

Re: Good day to all of you

[QUOTE=Gus9890;901316]Welcome to the JG!! Try posting in the WK section,

A Chrysler - Jeep technician installed the unit I had part # P05064401AH and it work. It was a Low Speed same as few jeeps with the exception of the Jeep Wrangler which is, for whatever reason, High Speed. Anyways the Alphabetical letters did not make any difference . The letters are just versions of the unit, The AH version is much higher than AA and or AB or AG; but lower than AI or AK etc. The issue has been resolved. Nevertheless the dealership technician did not had a clue on how to installed the Lockpick version 5 which came with the unit and it should have been installed with it but he left it out of installation he did not have a clue.

My dealer wouldn't have touched a modded RER with a 10ft pole...

Re: Good day to all of you...radio question

The reason for Chrysler introduced the Lockpick is to allow other products, rear view cameras, Bluetooth, and other electronics to be compatible with their own branch of electronic system. An electronic technician should basic knowledge of those new products that com into the market.

Interesting...I didn't know Chrysler made LockPick...just assumed it was a 3rd party company. Makes more sense that they'd work on it now that I know that...

The Lockpick IS NOT made by Chrysler. It is made by an aftermarket company (Coastal Technologies), and they make them for all sorts of vehicles. The main purpose is to 'unlock' features like video in motion, or to add features that currently are not available in the standard unit. Chrysler wanting to interface other components with their electronics has nothing to do with it.

There is no reason to expect a Chrysler tech to have expert knowledge as to what people may want to do with their vehicles once they are off the showroom floor.
