Re: Installed My New Valentine One!

Mounting it that high isn't a good idea for laser. Most good cops aim for the headlight or lower grill and the closer to the bottom of the windshield you are mounted the better warning you will get(however id adversely affects radar pickup). Lidarguys.com actually has a full write-up on testing the V1 as well as mounting height suggestions. Ultimately you want the unit as level as possible and so that it has a clear view forward and out the rear window. I ended up taking lidarguys suggestion and comprimising between radar pickup(higher the better on the windshield) and laser pickup(closer to headlight level) and put it centered in the windshield. To me the point of the V1 mounting is to be as functional as possible, pretty/stealth should come second to peak performance of the product.

Solid point BUT key flaw in this reasoning is that how much is laser used in the US compared to radar and the effectiveness of the V1 at alerting in ENOUGH time. To date Id say laser is being used mostly overseas, in the US for every laser gun out there there are probably around 10 radars so no need to focus on laser anyway. For radar purposes higher is better so thatd be your best bet.

Plus the way laser works, almost every time by the time it hits you its too late and your speed has been clocked. Laser isnt like radar where we rely on radar being on blast mode where the V1 can read the radar signal way before the radar has reached us allowing us to slow down safely. Laser will only set of the V1 once it has hit you directly on or very near to it so the LEO will have your speed or see you slamming the breaks to slow down and get over. So although the V1 can pick up "some" laser it cannot read the majority since the technology is very advanced/expensive and rapidly changing. At the end of the day, its useless to get a V1 for laser defense anyone can tell you that. Your only true defense is a GOOD laser jammer setup with dual heads up front and out back with some Veil on lights and probably even want a scanner just for extra precautions if your that serious

Dont get me wrong the V1 is the best out there as far as laser goes and certainly doesn't hurt but relying on that to save your from laser is like relying a video camera to save you from getting jacked, by time you know, its too late Ive seen this first hand and through test trust me haha I wouldnt come on here and spit bs about this kind of stuff. People need to know the truth in regards to police speed defense. Google if anyone has any doubts

You also have to take into consideration where its being used. I live in PA where no laser is used.... So I'm getting the best performance where it is

Re: Installed My New Valentine One!

SoontoBesert is right, im running the Escort Redline which has saved me from several speeding tickets. I got my first with a Laser gun, once the scanner read it the cop already had my speed. He said i knew i had a radar detector because i went from 89-70 in an instant. He was nice tho and let me off with only a 5mph over.

Doesn't matter. If a police officer is hitting your car, your detector would detect the laser even if its mounted on the top of the windshield. It also doesn't matter if the detector picks it up or not since once you get it by a laser, you already got, popped. I would want better radar coverage then I would ever want laser coverage from a radar detector.

Normally, your patrol officers doesn't use lasers however your traffic enforcement officers are more likely to use them. I do know of some departments that has only patrol officers and have a laser but only use it for speed enforcement grants OR if they are out there to target speeders. I drove though and area daily that uses radar, until one day I was in the same area and a police officer was using a laser. So its a gamble.

Re: Installed My New Valentine One!

Laser use does vary state to state, here in SC laser is used over 50% of the time, infact in columbia i get hit with laser 9 times out of 10. Laser guns takes 2-3 seconds to register a speed, so you do indeed have time to get on your brakes.

Note: wanted to add that detectors aren't set and forgets, you still have to pay attention. Usually i'll see the guy lasering just before my detector goes off, so I'm technically already on the brakes when my detector goes off. Also I only do 11-12 over, so by the time a laser and/or radar gets a reading I am already slowed down under the 10mph thresh hold the cops around here use. Lasers are very quick "locks", but if you're paying attention you can easily scrub 3-5mph before he gets a reading.
