I succesfully updated to 4.204 for the software but after 25 minutes of listening to the unit reading the dvd my gracenotes still was listed as 881. Is there something special I need to do to update the gracenotes to the latest version? When its finished updating is it supposed to eject the disk or give you some indication that its finished updating?

Here is my setup information:

Yes you need to update the gracenotes with a separate DVD. In Sox's downloads there is a gracenotes folder.. Burn only the folder and file to the DVD.. Refer to page 8 of this forum for the names ..
I burned a seperate DVD with the the folder GNDB and gnupdate.... Was i suppsed to burn the parent folder GN-RER-US-4620 with the subfolder and file under it? I understood to only have the file and the GNDB folder on the disk.. Will it tell me it is finished? I waited 25 minutes and ejected the disk because everyone said 20

Oh yes for interest sake I have also updated my navigation maps using navigation.com. Oddly I have to google my jeep (Cherokee) with the year and navigation.com to find the maps I was looking for as I could not find it directly of their site. Look at the compatibly tab to confirm your vehicle is listed!!

I purchased Chrysler UConnect MyGig EU 2013 for much less than the dealership quoted.

Hope this helps someone else..

Success
Used imgburn and presto she's updated to he latest version for gracenotes. Knew we were going somewhere when I actually saw the update screen as opposed to the last time when it was just the data screen.

Hi guys, I need your help! :(

Last week I bought a '08 Grand Cherokee WH with an REW unit that was freezing and rebooting all the time. Software version of the unit was 9.556.

I went ahead and installed latest version 2.404 but that didn't solve any of my problems (freezing, rebooting, uConnect and Bluetooth problems with iPhone).

Only at that point I came across this thread with the instructions to first update to 9.713, then 9.807 and then to the latest 2.404...

So I tried reverting back to 9.713 or 9.807, but without any luck... Installation stops after a minute or so and the unit reboots... :(

Any ideas? Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you eugber, you got me looking to the right direction!

I tried performing a HDD test through the engineering menu. The first time i hit the "start test" button, I only get an error count of #1; nothing else happens. I stop the test and run a new one; error count goes to #2. And so forth. And, of course, after a while the unit freezes and reboots.

Does this behaviour indicate a failing disk?

Tomorrow I will make the definitive test, as some websites suggest: I will physically remove the HDD and check to see if the radio works without freezing and rebooting.

By the way, these sites that I find on the net selling MyGIG HDD images (or even complete mygig hdds), are they legit? Has anyone used them?

Thanks!

PS: Sorry for hijacking this thread for a problem that proves to be unrelated. Perhaps a mod could transfer these posts? Thanks.

ok some good news:

I finally found some time to take the hard disk out of the unit and now the REW plays radio and audio disks without any freezing or rebooting at all! So, the problem was with the hdd after all.

Instead of replacing the failing hard drive with a fresh one, I think i'm gonna go the CompactFlash-on-a-CF-to-IDE-adapter way. I'm not sure if everyone's ever successfully tried this one, but in theory it should work 100% as CFs run in a true-ide mode. I'll let you know how it goes, as soon as I gather all elements I just ordered from Amazon.

Last but not least, I 'll need an image of the Mygig REW disk. There are vendors selling such images online ($38) and hopefully this is gonna work too.

I'll keep you posted.

Well I did it and it actually works!

I used a Transcend 32GB CompactFlash Card 400x ($30) on an Ultra IDE to Compact Flash Adapter for 44-pin 2.5-Inch HDD ($16). I downloaded a 30GB Mygig disk image ($38) for my REW and followed the instructions on the site for cloning the image to the "disk". It was actually easier than it seemed.

Definitely the way to go if you have a failing disk.

Chris

PS: sorry for once more hijacking this thread  ... perhaps a mod could gather all these off-topic posts and throw them in a thread of their own, thanks!

Hello sir,

I am coming over from the Dodgeforum website as you are the known expert! :)

I have recently upgraded mygig RBZ 430 radio to 50.00.07(2011 Dodge Durango). My gracenotes is very outdated and wanted to know if I could upgrade it with the RHR update?

Thank you sir!!

I tried to update my 730N RER almost a year ago. I was able to update it to the most current update at that time.

However, when I tried to update the Gracenotes, it did not work and now when I go to the software menu it reads Gracenotes: "N/A (..." which means that I have a broken gracenotes database, correct?

How can I fix this?

Thanks.

Cool! That's actually the same site I found. I emailed them asking if they think there would be a problem using a 64gb SSD in place. I also purchased my Jeep used with a lifetime Sirius subscription from the original owner (I am the 3rd now) and do not want to lose that. So I was wondering if I would be able to clone the current working drive instead of using one of their disk images. I will try to keep updated if I do end up switching to a SSD.

I also thought of going the SSD route at first. Eventually I preferred to try my luck with the CF as I found many negative references about the SSD on various forums (not only Jeep forums, but also forums for other Dodge and Chrysler models as well).

My main concerns about the SSD were:

a) In order for the SSD to properly work with the device, it must be supported through the BIOS; and this isn't the case with Mygig (which runs on a version of QNX, a Unix-like OS). If I recall correctly, someone reported he had to wait for almost ten minutes for his device to boot after power up. (But I'm not sure if this was a BIOS related issue).

b) A large SSD, ie a 64Gb drive as you mentioned, would hold a very large number of music tracks. Mygig has neither the processing power nor the interface to handle such a large amount of data. It would take ages to browse through your music...

You would also have to find a PATA SSD which is extremely rare (and from an unknown manufacturer), as most mainstream SSDs run on the faster SATA interface. And I'm not sure if it is possible to use a SATA SSD attached to a SATA->PATA interface and fit all these inside the Mygig enclosure.

But don't let me discourage you! :)
Do your research and let us know how it goes.

Zool, good info!
I've actually now been emailing the people at MyGig-Disk. They are saying the same thing about the SSD's. Transend does make a IDE SSD, but as the person from MyGig-Disk has tried, it did not work. Looks like I will attempt you CF way
I'll stick with a 32gb then, figure getting away from moving parts will lengthen my time with the HDD. At this point in time, I am not looking at changing my headunit anyways.
