Exclamation Please help! HDD USB Importing Issues

I have the stock RER Navigation and Radio head unit with the Boston premium Audio system, and I want to import music from my iphone instead of just CD's. And when I import music from a CD to the HDD, I loose all the track names and artists. How can I fix this? Is it fixable? And how can I get my iphone to import the music to the HDD. It says it cannot import from the connected USB device when I try to import from the USB connected to my iPhone. Please Help!!!

You won't be able to get music from your iphone to the HDD (unless you start doing things that will void your warranty and break your usage agreement). You can thank Apple's drm policies for that. This is to ensure that people are not making copies of music downloaded from Itunes. I also do not believe the RER can play .mp4 files natively, so even if you got them on you would have to convert them to mp3.

It's probably easiest to put your music onto a usb flash drive and import that way.

Don't know about the track names and artists being lost...could be a format issue.

As Dr.Lee said, your better off putting the files on a flash drive and importing them that way. It's how I do it and works great.

Don't know if this helps, but an iPod will copy to the HDD. If you don't have one you could probably get an old one for cheap. iPhone won't because anything you copy to the HDD has to be the primary from the device, and music isn't on an iPhone. I wouldn't do it that way though. I would actually make playlists and put them on a USB, then import them one list at a time. I plugged in the iPod and although all the names and titles were there. I couldn't navigate any sort of order to it. It's just 300 songs alphabetically by artist. And if you wanted to search a song, might as well pull over. It's pretty useless. I am going to try (one day) to make playlists and see if that makes the HDD option usable. Or just plug your phone into the cable in your glove compartment.

I figured out how to transfer my music. In my opinion, Its not really worth it if you are looking to transfer large amounts of music to the HDD. What I ended up having to do was take a USB and reformat it and then copy and paste my music from my iTunes media folder. And then in order to make sure the song names transferred correctly, I had to go through each song and fill out the information (Artist, Album Artist, Track Number, Album Name, Year, etc.) under the properties menu. Compared to some people, I don't have much music on the HDD and its still difficult to navigate while driving. The one thing I dislike about it is that even though the menu seems to be straightforward, you can't search for a specific song. You have to manually scroll through all the artists, or all the song names to get to it. I just think its hard to use while driving if you have to scroll through a bunch of stuff. I'm curious to hear what y'all's thoughts are on it.
