please help with new radio unit

I have an 08 laredo. the current radio I have is the stock one... looks like this if you are unfamiliar with it..
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2008/...NTERSTITIAL_15

It has the AUX port which I love. I always use with it for my ipod.. but it has the uconnect button that doesnt work.. bc I have no other parts for it installed to be capable.. I would also like to elimate my 3rd party tomtom navigation so its all in one...

I was thinking of potentially switiching out my radio unit for a unit with the Navigation built in and one that I can use with uconnect or even just a bluteooth to connect with my iphone for handsfree calls and well as having AUX for my ipod. I'm pretty sure from researching those are the RER or REC units that mopar makes? (please excuse my terrible knowledge on this..I've done some researching but you need so many parts for everything and I'm at a loss for what I would need)....

What exactly would I need in order to do this? and/or how much would it run me overall to have it installed??..parts and labor total..
Is there a better/cheaper way to get bluetooth and navigation with auxillary use still in my WK? I know some people run Pioneer units.. but again, no little about it..

What is the best option for me to upgrade my radio to have AUX, navigation and bluetooth/uconnect? (I dont need satellite radio) and what would their costs be?

Thanks

Re: please help with new radio unit

I'm in the same boat as you, except I'm looking to replace my dvd/nav unit that just died. My WK came with the same stock stereo (minus the aux jack) and you might be forewarned that you might have to change out your stock speakers as well to get them to work on a new head unit since they potentially run at different ohms. At least, that was the case with mine. I'm not sure if it was because it was an older (circa 2002) unit or actually the stock stereo but just look out for that additional cost if you go to a different aftermarket unit. I ended up getting Infinity Reference speakers in all the doors for maybe $200 total and it was a worthwhile upgrade for sure.

Mopar makes a Nav unit that is sold stock in some models that might be an easy swap too. Bu tin my opinion, if your going to spend that kind of money you might as well get a really nice aftermarket brand.

Re: please help with new radio unit

I do not know a whole lot about the audio side of things, but I think at least some of the stock navigation units require premium audio (specifically the amplifier) for the nav voice to be heard correctly...

I would vote for an aftermarket unit. I have the stock REC and it is certainly outdated now. Putting in the newer RER with nav is certainly a step in the right direction, but is still lacking when compared to the majority of after-market units.

Crutchfield.com can help you pick out a unit and make sure you get what you need to make it work. I've never tried them, but other members on here say they were great.
