Questions about amps and what not

So I'm no Albert Einstein when it comes to this stuff. All I want is for my sound system to sound good to me. I dont care if the birds flying overhead can hear what I'm bumping or not. I have a set of Pioneer 6x9's in the front of my Jeep due to the driver's side speaker blowing a while back. I want to get some Pioneer 6.5's for the back and a Pioneer amp to give it some more juice. The 6x9's I believe are 400 watts max. I wanted to get a 500 watt amp and a set of 300w 6.5's for the back. Would this work? Also whats the difference between 3 way/4 way/5 way etc?

Thanks
