Re: Stock Speaker Upgrade

Nice, those doors (which have already been replaced by the dealer since they were breaking apart) are a PITA to get off unless you have trim pry bars.

Re: Stock Speaker Upgrade

I guess we'll see how well my Boston's fit today, as the max mounting depth is 3-1/16" and mine are 3-3/16"... Sounds like I'll have to force them to fit...

I had a friend make a bracket to fit in between the speaker and door which solved that problem. Just make sure they won't rub the door panel.

Turns out I didn't need any brackets because the clearances weren't an issue. The Bostons fit perfectly. Had to splice in the dash speakers since there's no harness for them, and had to drill/tap new holes for the rear doors. Other than that, the install was a breeze. Even the sub install was pretty straight forward thanks to my PAC SOEM-T and a few Posi-Taps. The system is pretty freaking wicked paired with my stock REC now.

On a side note, man, those Bostons really perform. I used to be an Infinity fan for aftermarket stuff, but since I got them at pretty comparable prices, in hindsight, I'm really glad I went with the Bostons.

Re: Stock Speaker Upgrade

Show us some pictures of the bostons!

Yeah, install was a breeze once the doors came off, and I had to tap new holes in my rears as well.

My only issue now is when my HU turns on, my sub gives one thump. I've heard its due to my rca's running along side my powerwire which can cause interference, but not sure cuz i havent messed with it yet.

Anyone experience this problem?

Yeah I upgraded to these speakers:
3.5" Boston SE35, $49.95, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...tics-SE35.html

6.5" Boston SE65, $89.95, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...tics-SE65.html

6"x9" Boston SE95, $89.95, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...tics-SE95.html

Metra 72-6514 Quick Connect Harnesses, $6.99, http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a-72-6514.html

(you should rep me for all that work )

Note that I paid $241.72 shipped from sonicelectronics (after some PM's) and that included 3 of the quick connect Metra harnesses (only used 2 though because the front tweeter connections don't work, had to hard wire those). The Boston's come with any mounting screws/mounts/butt end splices/wires that you will need. Sonic is having a 25% off Bostons sale now so the time is prime to buy!

Sorry bud, I didn't take pics of the install and decided to stick with the OEM look and not install the grills that came with them so they're not visible now. I like my door panels, especially since I had to pay an arm and a leg to get them all replaced last year...

Like I said though, they sound phenomenal!

Oh dude it's seriously easy, took me a second to find a video for you in case you've never used insulated butt splice connectors before. I personally strip a little bit more wire to push into the connector. Also, be sure that you have your positive/negative wires correctly identified for the harness (see link to WK Jeeps below for the wiring color codes). Chop the harness connector off with an inch or two of wire in case you ever want to use it again later. Then strip the wire attached to your Jeep and attach the quick connect wires that came with your aftermarket speakers. Then follow this video on how to crimp the connections:

Not sure why the video isn't loading for me, here's a direct link: http://www.youtube.com/embed/pdBcPJ7Dtaw

Link to the color codes of the harnesses: http://wkjeeps.com/wk_audio_pinouts.htm
You should be looking for the AMPLIFIED codes off of the Left/Right (+/-) for the I/P SPEAKERS if you have the stock BA system.

Note, I didn't remove my pillars to get access to my tweeters. I was able to use my trim pry bars to lift them and wiggle them out in about 10 seconds...

The dash speakers are the easiest to do, took me 25 minutes max from start to finish.

The infinity's don't come with any quick connect wires. Could I use the connectors from an extra wiring harness that I have?

Not sure what you mean by that. Easiest way (without the quick connects) will be to chop off the harness like I previously said, then install one of these
to each end. Then match up the polarities and plug and play directly to the spade connections on the speakers. Be sure to use a wire crimper to crimp the connections down nice and tight so they don't vibrate loose.
