Re: Sub Install with stock radio!

I dont think you tapped the cig lighter. The cig lighter (port on the left) is in fact controlled by the ignition. The power port on the right is constant. Youll kill your battery if you leave it wired to the port on the right.

Re: Sub Install with stock radio!

good point, I never looked I just pulled the panel so it's probably the power outlet in the rear. Either way, is there another wire back there to hook the remote in to? I'd rather not have to run it all the way up to the front behind the head unit since the rear is so accessible. I think one of the amplified speaker wires would work but I'm not sure, they should be on when the stereo is powered/car is on.

Don't think there is. I dealt with this in my install.

Re: Sub Install with stock radio!

I tapped the rear cig lighter as well (saw where someone else did it) and it killed my batt 3x in a week. I just ran it up to the front left one by the shifter, didnt take long at all.

If you like the way they sound while facing up, keep them that way, it looks tight too.
But if you were to face the sub backwards, towards the lift gate, the further the bass sound waves travel, the stronger they get. Think of a sound wave... It gets bigger the further it goes out, so by having the sound bounce off the lift gate and traveling back towards the driver, it's a much better sound.

Also the purpose of a downward facing sub in trucks, etc

I honestly found that positioning the sub where I have it sounds best. But like you said it depends on the user. Mine is firing toward the tail gate mounted up against the back seat of the passenger side.

Re: Sub Install with stock radio!

Alright so I have a custom pioneer stereo running through the stock amp with the Boston acoustic speakers and I want to run a pair of 12's with another amp I was just wondering what exactly am I getting into would I have to completely redo the stereo system because of the CAN-BUS or is there any way to override it?
