WK1 False Floor Sub Box build

I've been sporting a 12" ported Alpine type R in the rear of the WK for a while now, taking up lots of room and cant really put anything in front of it. My amp, due to the previous owner, was located under the driver seat with wires run underneath the frame of the seat. I had to clean it up. So I ordered:

Cerwin Vega Stroker 1000.1 amp
2 Rockford fosgate 12" Prime stage 3 P3SD4-12 shallow subs DVC
kicker 2 way power distro block using maxi fuses
and tsunami ground
wired with 0 gauge wire because it was free from a car in a junk yard
and kicker shielded speaker wire

I used 3/4 MDF and outdoor/indoor carpet from lowes.. the color doesnt match, i know this and will correct it when the black I ordered finally comes in.
I had to do it this week or never do it for 6 months because my wife works 3rd shift and the saws would wake the sleeping bear.

First, I tore the huge useless plastic floor out. Cut the bottom of the box and measured everything else. The top of the box is .75 bigger on the left and right sides to set on top of the edge... which turned out not to matter.
The dimensions are 43"x24"x4.75 giving me about 1.8 cu ft. the subs only need .6 ea. So we're good. I kept them close together so a suitcase or anything else could fit in that spot. The grills for the subs are hard steel.

Once i put the box in place, i mounted the amp on top of some .75 and .5 MDF blocks to keep the amp off bare metal. One of the feet actually serve to keep the box from sliding back. the seats keep it from sliding forward. It also allows the air under the amp to move. the amp also has a built in fan pulling air from passenger side and blowing to driver side.

The cargo cover, the smallest lower step, is built to simply sit on top of the recess lip of where the old false floor was. I stepped the cargo cover down from the box rather than sloping as others have. It is more functional that you can set groceries and what not on the lower level and not have to worry about them sliding all over the place.

This is a great look and idea.....my only question is what about air circulation to keep the amp cool?

The amp has a fan built in. It pulls air from the gap behind thr panel which has a vent to the outside and blows it to the driver side. It also has .5" of free air underneath it. It has better circulation than any amp that people put in their tool trays.

not necessarily

Car Audio - Stealthbox® - Jeep - Grand Cherokee - Jeep Grand Cherokee '05-'10

I've been running mine now for 5 years now and never once has it gotten in my way. Something about the placement you chose would drive me nuts after a Costco run... not knocking it at all. I honestly wish i had two subs, but for my needs a single 10" is perfect and more than enough.

Good job on the install!

I sold the weak little 300 watt jl stealthbox for more boom. It just wasnt enough. When i listen to fear factory i want to feel the double bass like there is a kid in the back seat kicking me. The jl couldnt do it.. I had the 12 Alpine type R from another car i sold and used it with excellent result but got sick of the space hog. I could have spaced the subs evenly and centered em, but where the hell would I put my suitcase when we travel 4x a year? This design is purely functional.

its only functional if you have A suitcase to pack and maybe a smaller duffle bag.... I was able to fit 5 JK Moab wheels with tires in the back of mine no problem. Doubt you could that

Regardless, the setup is clean, don't get me wrong. Its just not as functional as you may think for most people.
