it would seem I've let the diff oil seal leak (now fixed) progress to the point at which there may
be damage to the diff bearing(s)
I'm now looking at changing the diff carrier hub bearings (not the pinion bearing itself as that's been checked and found to be ok).
Has anyone every changed the diff bearings and, if so, any tips on the methods involved? Or is this a dealer job
- I would prefer NOT to use dealerships as the UK prices are ridiculous in the extreme.... for example the bearings alone will cost me nearly $300 bought in the UK but only $107 from the USA. Labour charges here are of the order $120/hr too.
My BASIC thoughts are....
caliper off/hub disconnect
diff bearing holder released
half shaft pulled
reassemble in reverse order
Is this a DIY-able job given I'm quite profficient at the mechanics side?
Anyone already got a thread on this going - I can't find one - or a link to a 'how-to' section?
Getting a bit desperate so your advice is greatly appreciated.
