Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

Hey guys, this is my first post. I am having the same issue the Swede was having and havent found a way to fix it without dropping $500 on a whole new unit. No problems with the tranny shifting, but the dust cover missing it looks HOOD as hell! Anybody have decent luck fixing this?

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

Hi there!!!

Old thread but thanks, I fix it today... Just hope it will stay ok!!

I cleaned up the circuit with a pencil rubber and remove the dust with WD40 and paper like paper-roll (in the kitchen), until you have no black on it.

after that, I tried the car it was running better and smoother, before it use to pass up to get the OD quicker as possible.
Sometimes, she was stay in neutral. (my wife told me, never did with me)

But still the flash message "overheat transmission".

Took the WD again and put a splash in the bezel connector, and the message disapear.

Thanks to all!!

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

This is a great thread. It has saved me over 1000.00. Thank you to all who contributed. I did a video of mine when I cleaned it. I'll post the link here for others to check it out if needed. Poor design but easy fix if you have 2 hrs or so and a little patience.

Chad

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

I'm getting the Code: U0404 "Invalid Data Received from Gear Shift Control Module" on my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

If the gear shift module has to be replaced, does it have to be reprogrammed/re-flashed?

I took the jeep to a dealer and had the code read and they quoted me this enormous price for the part and said that I could not buy the part off the internet because it had to be reprogrammed after it was installed. They said I would have to have the jeep hauled in if I installed the Gear shift module myself.

My question is, does anyone know if this is true. I can save a ton of money by buying the part and installing the module myself.

Thanks

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

I just had the same issue on the GF's car. I purchased the part from Rock Auto; part no 601001, 325.00 plus shipping. Much cheaper than the dealer. Simple plug and play replacement, no special tools needed.

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

I followed the instructions of the video for my 06 commander V6 2x4. I cleaned the gaps and the gaps only ! the problem is resolved. Thank you for your video.

On a lighter note I guess. I had dead roaches on the circuit board inside the ECM. I dont know how they got there. I did buy the Jeep used with 15 K 6 years ago. maybe they were there when I purchased it. Nasty !!!

Now onto my ESP BAS issue.. XK

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

I am going to try cleaning mine this week. The tranny works fine in p r n d. It will not let me shift manually. Will cleaning this help that? Also I NEED the bezel blind fix. Mine were gone when I bought the truck.

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

Does cleaning the contacts help with the manual shifting. Mine has not worked since I bought it a year ago. Previous owner said that the module would need to be replaced. It runs and drives fine other than that.

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

Hi guys, I have been reading this thread, and I also have similar problems, my car is a 2007 CRD S Limited, with Low tcase. I have had my mechanic clean the shift module like on the video, I had my oil and filter changed in the tranny last week by the dealer, they told me that there are fault codes from the shifter module and that it needed to be changed, they want around 1000 euro for that, but as I just bought the car a few weeks ago and didn't drive it much, I told them that I haven't exeprienced any problems and refused to change it as I find it quite expensive. So now, I got my car back, and everything is fine, except when I was braking and almost coming to a full stop, the transmission made a loud clung when downshifting from 2nd to 1st, It does not do it everytime , only when I break hard, also the manual shift doesn't seem to be accurate. My question is, can that shifter module cause this? Or is it something else. Thanks in advance

Re: HOW TO: Change out PRND Bezel/Gear Shift

First post here; just saved over $900! Chad Greene; Your video is great! Thank you, Thank you!

One thing I would add is that the final, lone screw that holds the circuit board into the assembly is smaller than the smallest Torx bit I have in my kits (my smallest is a T-10) so I had to fiddle with needle nose pliers to get it out.

Also, I used CRC brand Electronics Cleaner from Walmart ($4.77), found near the brake cleaner. Radio Shack was out of stock for a similar product, but they priced it at $14.99! The gaps on my board didn't seem to get as clean as shown in the video, but so far everything seems great.
