Re: How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

I think it idles smoother now.

The old ones were champions and they were not that bad but i wanted to change them so i know they are good. Eventually i wan to change all fluids as well, just because you dont know how religious the previous owner was about maintenance.

the original plugs I took out looked almost new....but it was just for peace of mind and I had the intake manifold and everything off anyway

Did you use champions or autolites?

Re: How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

Just having the local garage change the intake spark plugs with Mopar replacement.

Service manager advises i need to purchase all new coil packs x 8.

Says they are sticking or melted to the spark plug... I had him show me,,, and there is thin layer of 1/16" of rubber/plastic stuck to the spark plug.

Doesn't seem to me that big an issue, but he only changed 4 plugs. Said if they continue, they might damage a coil pack and leave my Jeep in the shop for a day while waiting on parts delivery.

Do I smell B$ ???

Let me know if anyone had this issue,,, its only a 2009 model and need to replace coils?

He wanted $70 x 8 for the coil packs

.

Re: How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

I'd like to see some pics of that...The area is meant to have high heat...but to the point that its melting it? No that wouldn't be right. The actual coil is at the top and the rubber bit is just the insulator and connector. IMO I doubt you need a new coil pack... but the isolator and connector could have something wrong, and im doubtful you can get those as a part. Anywho... post some pics lol

Re: How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

Warranty here in UAE is a joke,,, my friend took his Jeep in for service and showed them a place on the rad hose that was hissing under high heat in a small pin hole...

Warranty covered it with a tire patch!

So,,, you are better off here doing your own servicing as they use the excuse of UAE high temps and it is the owners problem...

Guess we are only supposed to drive our vehicles from October till April...

... anyone know if there is a worthy after market coil pack or the actual mopar part number?

Re: How to change the spark plugs on a 4.7 V8 WK Grand Cherokee or Commander

looks much easier than when I did the plugs in my 89 taurus and 94 grand prix. You have to take out a motor mount bolt and rock the engine forward just to get to the plugs that are towards the firewall ....grrr

my wk 4.7 has 60k on it, so I'm assuming it should need the plugs changed?
