Here is what I did and how I did it...You can obviously do it however you want as this is only how I did it and should be only used as a guide!

Parts Used:

JET 180 TStat #10183
Zip Lock Freezer Bag
Big Black Garbage Bag

Tools Used:

ScrewDriver
Ratchet and Socket

Ok, Lets get started...

First locate where the tstat will go...In the 5.7 its directly under the TB on the left!

Close up!

I pulled off my air intake so I would have easy access to the 2 bolts!

Close up!

I placed a big black garbage bag behind it, just in case it started gushing out everywhere!

The I took a Zip Lock Freezer Bag and held it under as I removed the bolts!

Quite a bit came out when I unbolted it and pulled away the hose and then when I popped the stock tstat out some more came out as well! I just let it all go into the bag although some did miss and get on the driveway!

I then put in the 180 tsat!

Attached the hose back!

Made sure it was all tight!

And finally put my intake back on!

That was it...Piece of cake!

Total time was 15min or so!

Like always this is just how I did it...I take no responsibility for you!

Nice writeup and it is something that I'll be doing to my WK tommorow as the tstat stuck open today on a 300 mile round trip.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to to running a tstat that is 15deg lower than oem. Advantages might include an increase in power and maybe a little better mileage. The possible disadvantages include increased engine condensation and sludge formation, screwing up emission controls and possibly fouling O2 sensors and cats. It is a trade off going to the 180 tstat and something that probably shouldn't be done unless you are willing to accept the possible downsides. Personally, I plan on replacing mine with a 195 tstat as that's the temp the engine was designed to run at and I plan on keeping it for a long, long time. ;)

alright Frankie I will be doing this shortly...give me some insight as to why you changed the Temp due to a CMR? I will be getting my DS predator, Tstat and bwoody soon...and then I will send my stock file for a CMR. Should I install the TStat before I remove the stock tune onto the predator? I am new to this whole tuning game so any and all help is greatly appreciated. And did you just poor the coolant back in? I just read another thread showing some bleeding to get the air out...

You can change the tstat at any time before or after, it won't affect the tune.

Its just good to have, as you are beating on your engine, you want it to run cooler. Changing the T-stat will do just that.

CMR will change timing and engine parameters to make it perform better, with the added power, your engine will want to run hotter. Changing the t-stat will tell the engine to start running coolant sooner at a lower temp.

Also, in your climate, changing it will probably have 0 effects on how long it takes for your motor to get up to heat. Even around here it isnt that bad

So has anyone had any issues directly related to the tstat? Like emissions issues or o2 sensors failing? I know that to void warranty they would need to pinpoint that the tstat is the reason for the problems, but is the tstat enough to void? Also, is it worse to run a 180 tstat in really hot weather or really cool? I do go to Vegas in the summer and I don't want to fawk anything up ( it's a 300+ mile drive that is hilly and reaches 115 degrees outside and sometimes 120 ). Thanks in advance

Rather than your engine running around 210 Its running around 185-190 at the highest with the 180*. Cooler engine has its pros and cons. If your tuning it, it'll run hotter... cooler is better... TO A POINT. Having it too cool will burn more fuel and foul up emissions.

When towing helps the engine stay cool when hauling a heavy load.... or climbing a mountain in the desert when its 120 out.

The 180* in my 4.7L made it run so much better its not funny.

Got my Jet Thermostat today engine too hot to install. Does the jet stat with the black rubber gasket need to be changed with the one that came off the the oem stat? Is there any modding the stat or does it fit right in?

4.7L one was a direct drop in.

I will install my jet but in the trinity diablosport i can find the option to modify the fan temperature, and in the forum support say:
"I seem to recall here seeing a thread where it was described that the SUVs use a electric clutch fan, not a real electric fan."
I think they erase the option, or can someone help me with that?

#29 ·
the 5.7L fan is hydraulic not electric or clutch. The diablo unit should have it... id update it and look again. If that fails, call up customer support.

It is a good mod my temp driving around highway the temp 185 stop go about 203 to 207, temp 203 is what the stock tstat is. Without in hot atlanta I was running 215 to 220 stop and go. I have never had a code come up. I got a dashhawk so I can see my temp readings.

Mmm ok i asume that the 5.7 hemi, has two hydraulic fans, to they are always runing?, there some parameter in the ecu?.
I been reading a lot in other chargers, challenger forums that a Tstat 180 are the most common upgrades to the 5.7 engine, but they said if the fan temperature arent modify the upgrade its workless.

Theres a tuningsuperstore.com where it can make a custom tune for 5.7, maybe in the custom tune can be modify the parameters to the fan on/off, so it can work better with the tstat?

It should just be an option to turn on or off on the diablo... I know its like that on the superchips. Believe that you are also able to pull CMR canned tunes off the diablo site as well with the purchase and setup of a tuner to your jeep from them.

MDS
Pressure Calibration
Trottle Calibration
Tire Size
WOT Fuel

Part Trottle Downshift
Part Trottle Upshift
RPM Shift Points

It always is "running" But there is a pressure regulator that will adjust how fast and when to go that fast.

From the manual:
Modify Tune Procedures
1. When selecting the “Modify tune” function, a disclaimer will
appear. Read and press “Enter” to continue.
2. The “modify Performance Tune menu will appear. You will
have 2 choices:
• Modify Parameters
• Reset all Parameters
3. Highlight the appropriate choice by using the arrow keys &
press “Enter”
4. In the “Modify Parameters” Menu the following choices will
appear for your Hemi applicable vehicle:
• Speed Limiter
• Idle Speed
• WOT Spark Advance
• WOT Fuel Table
• Knock sensor Enable/Disable
Cooling Fans

Yeap jeeps dont have that option about cooling Fans.
Mikel from diablosports response:

"I seem to recall here seeing a thread where it was described that the SUVs use a electric clutch fan, not a real electric fan."

http://diablosport.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=24553

so theres no way how to control the fan for proper tstat 180 mod.
