Re: How to: Mesh grill on a 08 WK

I was thinking the same thing Scott...then I thought about it and noticed to do this mod the removal of the whole front fascia is not necessary; only the lower part is required! I will get a rivet gun, but I wanted to get started on this and I am glad i don't need to take it all off!

There are 6 clips that the lower front fascia connects with; they are the lime green clips in the pics below. Use a screwdriver on the clips, a flathead and press firmly on the spring-loaded green clip and in between the black plastic and the opposite side of the point on the clip (on the side of the grip on the green clip). This sounds confusing when i type it; use common sense when you look at these connections. I tried using my fingers and the flathead is the only way to go! Then there are two "spin tabs" (this is going to be my term for them) that you need to remove; these have a tab for you to grip, give then a 1/4 turn and pull them out. That is it.

Then you need to remove the black plastic cover below the lower fascia. Again, remove the spin tabs, there are 5 of them; three on top and two below. You can remove them when you are removing the lower fascia. Then the black cover will pull off. ou will need to take this off b/c that is where I will connect my mesh grill. I am going to bend a 90 degree angle on the mesh; drill 6-8 holes and secure with same washer/screw set-up, but I am going to paint these black.

The hard part is going to be modifying the lower fascia to fit the overland chrome piece. DAVY27 did this, so it can be done. I just don't feel like I have the proper tool to cut the 13 "slots" I need to cut out to allow the tabs on the new chrome piece to secure it. I will tape it off anf mark the exact sizing I need for the tabs, I just need the most efficient and precise way to cut this. Please give me any ideas...I am thinking a handheld dremmel tool?? How much are those with some cutting heads?

EDIT - I just looked on DAVY27's old post, and he used a drill...so I think that is what I am going to do, and I don't need to buy anyhthing...AND there are the outlines of the slots, so there is no need to tape it off as you will never see that area again, the chrome insert covers it all. So I am going to drill the holes out tonight.

It is dark and I don't have the tools, but this will be done next weekend! Any help as always is greatly appreciated...I think this will look great when its done!

looking good brad!!! i can't see the mesh in the lower grill though!!! did you install it?

im sending my grill this week to my buddy who powdercoats so i should have it installed by the end of the week. i didnt want the paint chipping so i opted for powdercoat vs spray paint.

Re: How to: Mesh grill on a 08 WK

Ok fellas. My grill is dont. But I aded more support. Check it!!!

I took the grill apart and drilled screws through the frame fo I could have something to zip tie the grill to make it fit more flush.

Then I grinded the head and tip off with a dremel and put it back together.

And here's the finished product!!!

Re: How to: Mesh grill on a 08 WK

OK I'll have to take the grill off and take pics of the back. I'll prob change the grill anyway in the next 3 years or so. But it's all the way around the back and if it starts to rust I'll spray it with some rustoleum or something.

Re: How to: Mesh grill on a 08 WK

OK i just finished up my front end...what do you think?

The lower valance was a lot harder to install the mesh on, but I am really happy with the finished product. I can do a write-up or answer any questions. IMO this really finished off the look I was going for!!!
