Re: How To: Install a mesh grill on a 08 WK

Hey all who performed the grill mod:

I read the thread and have a question...I do realize the strength and rigidity of the mesh grill increases 10-fold after applying the 16 screws w/ washers, but my question is regarding the overall appearance on the mesh grill in the center of the grill posts. Obviously the mesh is held on tight when the screws are attached but I am wondering if the mesh bows out at all along the center of the posts, since there aren't any screws except along the outer edges of the mesh.

I couldn't tell from the pictures if the mesh sits nice and flush throughout...

Re: How To: Install a mesh grill on a 08 WK

personally I bent/"rounded" my mesh so it would sit flush with the bow of the grilles...it is natually going to want to suck in towards the engine when you screw it down via top/bottom method, so as long as you contour the mesh a little you will be fine. I know others have put screws on the inside of the vertical grilles, but I did not need to. and on the bottom section you do not need to worry about it. that help?

Yea that helps. Wasn't sure how you attacked it. This will be my little project over Christmas break. I think I will get mesh powdercoated then install.

Yea chuck a pic on here when you can. As long as you can't see screw heads when looking at or into grill, that can do the trick.

Re: How To: Install a mesh grill on a 08 WK

yea i think i don't have a choice for anything other than getting a nice powdercoat...

as this jeep is my work vehicle and working on construction jobsites can get real sloppy, conditions-wise

sometimes i hold back tears when i look at a completely muddy jeep and wheels ;(

lol

Re: How To: Install a mesh grill on a 08 WK

Today I worked on customizing my grill with a little mesh from good old Home Depot.
It's cheap but looks oh so sweet.
