Re: How To: Install a new EGR

Just did mine and it worked wonders for my 57L with 50K+ miles. $39.99 at Auto Zone. Thank you again for this awesome write-up. PS- I didn't have anything to cut the bolt off so I just removed the serpentine belt off the alternator and loosened the 2 bolts along with wiring harness to make room for the bolt so it could slide out (an added 15 minutes but well-worth it).

Re: How To: Install a new EGR

anyone have advice on what tool to use to get that outer bolt off? I can't even get a socket on it! I'm hoping to get it loose and wiggle it out as some have stated worked for them. I'd prefer to not remove the alternator or serp. belt as I'm nervous to screw something up. Is it just turning the tensioner to release tension and then turning it back to re-tension when done? I assume it'll go back to the correct tension, but what do I know? haha

Thanks!!

Re: How To: Install a new EGR

^^ok that's what I was wondering. Maybe I'll grab a ratcheting open end wrench. Good excuse for a new tool!

Re: How To: Install a new EGR

I miss 1980's pickups where you could climb right into the engine bay and hang out for awhile. Nothing was hidden back in the day, lol.

Re: How To: Install a new EGR

ok finally got the EGR out and replaced and what a pain in the balls! So tough to get on those nuts in there without open faced wrenches. But with some 10mm and 8mm screwdriver type tools I got them all out finally. replacing was much easier but I did trim the new bolt before putting that outer one back in.

Entire airbox had to come out and I just unsnapped a couple connections to the coolant overflow. All came back together nicely and its done. Jeep runs great, we'll see how it adapts over time.

Thanks for all the pics and advice! Would be a million times easier the 2nd time around., But hopefully this one makes it to 80-90k (I'm at 44k now - 2008 HEMI)

Thanks!!

Re: How To: Install a new EGR

Wow, after yesterday's fight with the EGR, the Jeep runs great especially on the highway now. Averaged 23MPGs over 20 miles in the HEMI (90% highway of course). Could not be happier, I'd highly recommend the EGR swap as well as plugs, PCV and TB cleaning. Did wonders for me at 44k. Added the Airaid intake tube as well, but really I think it just gave me some more engine sound (which was worth it in itself).
