Re: How to open up OEM HID headlight housings to paint the bezels

what year is your Jeff Dave? s your glue the clear stuff Scott speaks of, or black.

i have opened about 10 of them that have the black glue??????? and maybe one was 'easy'.

I have found that a 1 1/2 real sharp chisel can get me started the best.

start at opposite end as blinker. use some small drivers to work on those external clips. then my chisel in the end. use palm to kind of hammer it in. remove, do it agai. with some twisting to start to break the seal. sometimes one heating i only barely get that seal on that short side to opena bit. if you watch the edge where you are trying to insert the chisel, and you can usually see as air starts tio enter.
as it cools I put it back in the 230 oven about 10 minutes out again a little more prying.....

point is its not like insert chisel, twist wrist once and end opens, pull apart. it def aint that EASY.

Re: How to open up OEM HID headlight housings to paint the bezels

i did sweat my ass off...but i used a heat gun in my garage...and it was hot...but anyways, it did take time to do everything, maybe an hour and fifteen minutes to take them apart, with a coupla drink breaks...but it was hard stuff...it took me about 5 hours total, including the 3 layers of paint, and the halo installation, i think the worst part for me was taking the headlight assembly off of the car!

Re: How to open up OEM HID headlight housings to paint the bezels

th newer WK headlamps arent held together with any glue or adhesive. The clear lense and housing is heated and fused together for an almost permanent seal.

I have a clear lense off the housing.....but not much time to get a pic right now
