Will this work for 2011 and 2012 GCs?

Re: How To: Program Extra Key FOB 05-08 WK's

Most locksmiths can actually do the programming as well. So if you get down to 1 key, or even no keys, call your local locksmith first.

I'm a locksmith (doing mostly auto work) here in NJ and do this on a regular basis.

Re: How To: Program Extra Key FOB 05-08 WK's

I was having problems with my FOB, I thought it was the battery, and that didn't fix it. When I was replacing the battery, I noticed the bracket holding the battery was loose. I broke out the soldering iron and added a tad of solder and it worked fine ever since!

Re: How To: Program Extra Key FOB 05-08 WK's

To my knowledge this will work for 99-07 Jeep Grand Cherokee's. (TOO MY KNOWLEDGE) It may work on 97-01 Cherokee's and 97-06 TJ's. I only looked this up for my Jeep since I was having problems.

That is what happen to my key fob on my 05 Wk today, opened it up and the battery was moving around the battery holder, not a good solder got to find someone to solder it back to the board.

Re: How To: Program Extra Key FOB 05-08 WK's

Here's a question: I'm thinking of replacing my factory security system with a Python aftermarket one with it's own fob. I do have two existing fobs, so programming a new one shouldn't be a problem, but I want to ditch the old bulky fobs (since I'll have an additional bulky Python fob on the keychain). So can I buy a key like this New Chrysler Dodge Jeep Replacement Transponder Ignition Chip Car Key Uncut | eBay
and just program it (it seems to have the chip transponder too)? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK it should work. The chip that handles the ignition is separate from the remote entry system, so you should be able to program the key and use to start the vehicle up. I'm not sure how the aftermarket unit you are planning on using works, but I would think the only time there would be a conflict is if you open the door with the mechanical lock after the alarm has been set - although this is what you would want to happen (and is the way the factory system is set up too).

Certainly worth a shot for $8!

Cool I was thinking about buying 2 and programming them to my system before I have the aftermarket system installed. I know the aftermarket system usually runs an ignition bypass (for the remote start, etc) so I'm not sure if the key programming will work after it's all said and done because the unit "tricks" the vehicle into thinking there is a key there somehow. Oh well, biting the bullet and picking up 2 to play with!

Thanks!

Got both my keys and the programming protocol worked like a champ. Now that that's done, I just ordered my aftermarket security system/remote start to go with them! Merry Christmas to me!
