Re: How To Replace Shifter Belt/Dust Cover.

i know, i figured you would have seen those once you removed the shifter assembly so i didnt circle the area on the pic. the 4lo switch will then slide out of that little storage area once it is unscrewed. were you able to get the cover off?

Re: How To Replace Shifter Belt/Dust Cover.

my goal was to get the 4wd switch out to bob for LEd. I didnt want totake the shifter off the floor hance all the BS yesterday. once I took off the console it was easy. and 3 more bolts i could have the shifter out if i needed to.

thanks for the pics.

once daniel send me my PAINTED top piece i will take it all apart again and put the 4-lo switch back. going to try some paint on the chrome LO handle too.

ooooooh i wish you just asked that lol i think you only had to remove the two screws under the 4lo, unplug the wires and then slide it up. please post pics of his work when you get it back because i would really like this done too. i even have an extra shifter or two laying around so i wont have any down time. i have white leds in my information center and heated seats controls and would love to get them in the homelink, door switches and shifter as well as my MYGIG but i dont think i will mess with the MYGIG.

lol i wish i knew of this site back then, would not have let the stearlership touch it... they always have a way of pretending like theres no way youll find a better deal and should just let them do it; also in regards to their dumbness they didnt even put it back right they broke the tabs in the bezel around the shifter (the black one not the chrome) and now the one side doesnt go in all the way...

are you sure they broke it? mine was somewhat loose on the corner nearest the pedals and i just pushed down on it the other day and it clicked back into place and it is now as good as new. it is worth a double check, i hope it works.

Re: How To Replace Shifter Belt/Dust Cover.

Hello,

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I'm having the same problem, my dust cover busted... Your dust cover that you used in the pictures looks different than mine (mine broke into 3 parts, the top, the bottom and the middle that is still attached to my shifter). Is the dust cover that you used from the same year as your jeep or is it from a later year? I just went to a jeep dealership and the whole shifter plate is 800$ itself...will not pay that...

Thanks!

Re: How To Replace Shifter Belt/Dust Cover.

The dust cover I installed is in fact from a later year. I have an 05 and ours are made out of a rubber silicone material. The later year is made from plastic and creates less friction which then give less chance of failure.

It's a shame that they will not sell the dust cover separately. They changed the design for a reason. I believe that reason is because they knew the rubber dust cover fails eventually.

I'll tell you this, if I wasn't lucky enough to stumble across that peice at the dealer for free, I would have made one myself out of plastic to prevent stuff from falling inside the shifter.

Re: How To Replace Shifter Belt/Dust Cover.

Yes it was designed very poorly. I called the jeep dealership to see if they had any or sold any separate and they said no..but anything up to an 07 is compatible so looks like I'll be calling junk yards to see if I can pull one from there. Thanks for posting the steps on how to remove the plate because I was trying to figure it out but I was missing the two screw that are under the little cup holder thing. Now I'll deffinately be able to do it myself, thanks!!
