Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

So it will not be counterproductive to change the oil with a half tank of gas (that contains some seafoam) remaining?

I plan on putting a half can in the gas tank and half can in oil tonight. Driving to and from work tomorrow (45 miles) and anywhere else I may go. Then Saturday when it's not freezing I'll warm the car up, do the brake line, take a 20 mile trip somewhere and then change the oil. May not be a huge smoke show doing it intermitently, but clean is what I'm going for.

Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

Just did the Seafoam treatment yesterday. Got a good bit of smoke for about 10 minutes. I found an old turkey baster useful when adding the 1/2 can to the vacuum brake line. Can control the flow easily and avoid stalling out. Haven't noticed any performance gains since; but I for sure know it's cleaner.

Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

So, i JUST changed my oil (installed fumoto valve after stripped bolt #2 in 2 years)....and CEL came on - P0304(cyl. 4 misfire). Another member had the same code and it turned out to be a clogged injector.

....that being said, I want to try seafoam, but only in the gas tank and vacuum line. Anyone seafoam WITHOUT putting it in the oil?

Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

You dont HAVE to do it all 3 ways, you just can. I do mine every few months. Dont put it in the brake vacc line on a hemi, put it in the pcv hose right into the manifold, like this

or into the small vac line just behind the TB shown here (arrow)

this will make sure all the cylinders get a even amount of it and it will help remove some of the oil the pcv sucked into the mani. when you are close to putting in however much seafoam you plan on letting it suck in you DO want the engine to stall if you can make it. This keeps a coating on the parts so it cleans better.

If you havent done it before you should get quite a bit of smoke. the 1st time i did mine, i couldnt see the neigbors house

Smile Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

I have never done it from there, I use the brake vac line I got zero smoke I did it about 4k miles ago. How offen do you need to seafoam? I like your jeep I think that is the first picture I have seen of it looks great.

Later

Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

^ Thanks
I dont know what they suggest, but my normal day-to-day is 5 miles or so across town then i take it cross country several times a year. the short trips dont burn stuff out very well...........unless someone thinks they're gonna try n show me up

I do mine every 2 months on avg. in the winter maybe more if I foget to empty the catchcan enough , Sometimes I'll do it if i notice a little shake @ idle. Usually though, if the TB looks dirty,I clean it then seafoam it. It cant be too clean

P.S. I know people say brake vac line, BUT it says where it will get even distribution. the hemi manifold doesnt really have the booster line in a great spot for that.

Re: How To: Sea Foam Automotive Treatment

I've tried Seafoam at least 2 or 3 times and got a ton of smoke but I recently tried the STP version that 4.whoa mentioned above (I couldn't pass up the 2 for 1 deal lol) and followed the same method and put it in the the brake booster line and I got ALOT more smoke with the STP version. Now I don't know and can't say it's more effective at cleaning more of the carbon deposits or if it's just the product itself burning off. Also the STP version is different slightly chemically, it doesn't contain any alcohol like Seafoam does (isopropyl alcohol). One last note, it was a lot easier to stall the engine with the Seafoam than the STP, I was able to pour it in faster with the STP. My guess is because it's the absence of the alcohol component.
