Talking I want growls :P

Hey everybody im new to this forum, pretty excited to be here though! i have a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7l hemi, the only real mod i have is the new air intake i installed a few days ago, im supeer happy with how that sounds. My stock muffler (Huge, by the way haha) has holes all threw it and is making my Jeep sound like pooop :-( Any suggestions on what i can do to improve the performance sound from the hemi? (straight pipe where muffler is?, performance muffler?

Re: I want growls :P

I have an 08 5.7 Hemi. I put on Flowmaster Super44 Muffler in place of the huge stock one and the cut off the stock resonator as well.

Sounds awesome!

It is also common for our Hemi's to have a leak at the engine / exhaust manifold. Some times the manifolds warp, cracking the head off a bolt and letting exhaust gas escape. Makes the truck sound kinda old and hissy. Have your exhaust guy check all molts on the exhaust manifold, look for cracks too. OEM replacements, I believe are like $120 per side. The labor to change them is high, very difficult to get to.

I don't have a video of my exhaust, however this is the one that sold me. Sounds just like this (understanding that cell phones don;t really get the exact sound). I think she sounds like a beast, similar to alot of the Dodge Ram 1500 5.7Hemis with loud exhausts.

My OBD light just came on today and my heart sank.. I think it may be a problem with the emissions equipment or like you said, maybe a leak in the exhaust. I have been hearing a hissing noise recently from the mid pipe area so I hope its not a leak but im kinda glad its not anything more serious than emissions, I HOPE; Im still going to take it in for a scan soon.

Re: I want growls :P

Funny you asked that, as I just reduced my "growls" yesterday.

I have a K&N air intake:
K&N Products by Vehicle Search - Year, Make, Model, Engine Search
which adds power, and isn't too loud under the hood, just a nice "whooshing" sound.

But the Magnflow muffler was too loud.
https://www.magnaflow.com/automotive...aight-through/
Sounded like a WWII deuce & 1/2 truck. Women, dogs and other wildlife ran from my Jeep. So, I removed it for a stock muffler. Still loud, but now tolerable, and reasonable.
