Re: Matt's DIY CAI (5.7l HEMI)

Dam, too bad you didn't have a way of measuring the before and after IAT with the heat wrap. Nice job though.

I bought it online. I think it was an eBay store called HeaderWrap... something like that.

I fight the engineers designs on a daily basis when i work on TRANE, BRYANT, and just about any other hvac equipment. I could go into detail, but it's not worth it.

Re: Matt's DIY CAI (5.7l HEMI)

Looks good. I am due for a new intake (the 3" thickwall PVC one is looking a little too ghetto for my tastes these days), and I still dont want to shell out 250+ for a K&N FIPK when all I want/need is the stupid tube and heatshield...I should probably follow your footsteps and make one out of 3.5" thinwall if I can find it. I'll wrap it with the cooltape, a buddy wrapped his FIPK in it and it looks excellent.

As for the concerns about CELs, or AFR, a stock Hemi calibration is safe enough for bolt-on modifications. With that being said, it does have a limited capability of adjusting the fuel map as necessary.

While installing a wideband AFR gauge is never a bad investment (it can potentially serve a greater purpose than just tuning), I personally do not feel it is necessary here.

My theory is that the increase in air flow/velocity is not significant enough at idle/low rpms to freak the PCM out on startup like Alfredo saw with the FRP TB (As most of you saw. Based on what I've seen, resetting the PCM before the installation of any new modification is always a good idea on the Hemi.
