Need help on half shaft replacement

I am replacing the half shaft, wheel bearing, and output shaft seal on the front drivers side of my jeep.

Everything was going fine until I tried removing the lower strut mount clevace bolt from the lower control arm. It absolutely will not come out! I am hoping someone has a suggestion.

I have tried lots of penetrating oil and a brass hammer. I am avoiding heat because I don't want to trash the rubber bushing.

Re: Need help on half shaft replacement

Watch the attached video. About 3 minutes into it, it shows this bolt being driven out with a screwdriver being used as a punch. You may want to put a jack under the arm to ease the weight hanging on it. Good Luck!

Thanks for the video! I have pounded on it for over an hour with a 3 pound brass hammer, I think it is bent because it certainly didn't pop out like that haha. I'll try the jack idea.

If it is bent and won't come out would I need to cut it out?

From the history of this site and even my own, that bolt aint comin out. Most people end up replacing the whole LCA. Do a search on this site or even google. Prolly won't find many that have successfully removed it. GL

Re: Need help on half shaft replacement

Here is a video which IMO is very good on the subject. He shows how to get the strut out without removing the clevis bolt. Watch it from about mid point. I am very interested in this because I intend to replace my struts very soon with Monroe "Quick Struts".

Re: Need help on half shaft replacement

In my case I needed to remove the clevis because the half shaft goes through it. I actually ended up taking the half shaft apart and reconnecting it in place.

It was a hassle but better than replacing the entire lower control arm which is what the jeep mechanic I talked to said he normally does.
