OK, lets admit those really cheap dealership oil changes have several goals.
- Bring over the high school kids from the jiffy joints into a dealership as interns
- Get you in the dealership, where the service always seems to take long
enough for a bit of schmoozing with sales, the techs, and slobbering over
- Gives them a chance to do a vehicle inspection where items you may have
forgotten or not noticed are also taken care of. There is definitely a profit
Ask them. I don't recall my service managers ever waving henny penny hands in the
air, more often I get "naawww, wait till next oil change, or just wait till it wears out"
responses. Except in one occasion where the cooler line was laying on the exhaust--but usually for bad stuff like that, they come get me in the event I want
it fixed immediately.
