Post Painting Calipers

So, i Decided to Paint my calipers and this is how i went on about doing them.

i started off by putting my jeep on 4 candles and removing all 4 tires.
i then preceded to unbolt the front caliper to take of the bracket that holds it in place. there are 2 screws in the back that you need to take apart which hold the calliper onto the rotor, once that is done remove the 2 bolts and the rubber stoppers aswell as bleeder valve cap, then proceed to pull the caliper from the rotor, it comes apart in 2 different peices, (the bracket) that can be removed and is free, and the actaul caliper that is attached to the brake line and abs line, tape the brake line. I didnt bother detaching my caliper because i didnt want to have to re bleed my brakes. After this being done i did this to both front callipers. i then buffered the bracket and the caliper itself with a metal meshed head on a grinder to clear the caliper of old brake dust and impurities. (takes about 15 min per caliper). After the front was done i then started the back, with the back calipers. there are 2 bolts holding it in aswell with rubber stoppers, remove the rubber bleeder cap and tape the brake line. rear caliper comes of as 1 piece (attached by brake hose and abs) i then had to buff the rear calliper while being attached to the brake hose so i just set it into the rotor with a cardboard and buffed away until all impureties where cleared. repeated this to both rear callipers. once all the buffing is done. you can then proceed to paint. I used Dupli-color Chevy orange as my primary colour, i sprayed each caliper with 3 coats of spray paint, i let the spray dry about 20 minutes in between. once you have re sprayed your calipers remount them with either same brakes or new brakes. put the bleeder cap back on aswell as the rubber stoppers with the screws. once done, just let paint dry for about 24hours in a garage where there is no wind and no dust flying around.

here are some pictures of the progress.

Re: Painting Calipers

I bought the fake red brembo caliper covers, I couldn't stand how the small back calipers look painted, they hide behind the wheel lol.

Anyways I hope the front ones will fit behind my 17" stock wheels, looks kind of tight...nice work man

Re: Painting Calipers

good stuff!

for the brembo covers...i dont want to be a debbie downer but..be careful if you do use em, i heard horror stories from the covers falling apart while in motion due to heat. Also it traps the heat causing brake issues.

Davy has said it! pretty much sums up why i would never get those covers! and plus why spend more money and a hastle to get them to stick with the exreme heat!
