replacing headlight housing

I searched so please don't scream at me but I want to change my headlight housing and put in projectors with hid but I cant seem to be able to remove the headlight. I removed the top bolt and the screw but I don't know how to get the third one on the bottom out. I removed my grill and I can feel behind on the lower right "pass side" that there is something like a screw/bolt. It is near impossible to remove that thing. Is there something I need to do otherwise to get the headlight out.. thanks..

Re: replacing headlight housing

i took off the grille and front bumper so i didnt break any of the tabs. there is another bolt or two on the bottom of the headlight. some people reach up under and get it that way, but i just removed the bumper to be safe. only took like 10 mins to take it off.

Re: replacing headlight housing

Remove grill.

3 pins top middle of bumper hidden by bottom of grill.
3 bolts under bumper bottom.
2-3 plastic rivets in each wheel well.

Then 7 or 8 mm bolt in each end of bumper going into fender.....look under and up where bumper meets fender in wheel well.

Re: replacing headlight housing

Hey thanks, I'm checking another site and found this info.

http://www.wkjeeps.com/lamps/wk_headlamp_removal.pdf

#5 Remove the three screws (3) that secure the two
lower and the upper inboard lamp mounting
brackets to the front end sheet metal.

Does that mean the bumper needs to be off to remove the headlight because it said sheet metal and there is no sheet metal unless the bumper is off.

Re: replacing headlight housing

Re: replacing headlight housing

There are 2 10mm bolts on the bottom of the headlights..you removed the outboard one which is easy to see, the other is barely visible but can be accessed lying under the side of the Jeep with the wheel turned outwards. You need a small 1/4" rachet with socket and with some patience you can, as I did, remove that bolt. The grill and top plastic cover(s) as well as the plastic (white) plug holding the headlight in place need removing obviously.

Re: replacing headlight housing

thanks all I'm going to try and do it soon when it gets warm enough as I only have an outside driveway to work on. Though if anyone in NYC I'll willing to shell out $100 to replace my headlights if you can do it for me.. thanks.
