Second key

Hello, I recently purchased a 2006 GC Laredo 4x4. When I picked it up the dealer informed me they only have 1 key for it. I proved out a new key through them and they key would cost me $170 and to program it is another $120 (1 hr labor charge). Does anyone know a cheaper method? I am fairly technically inclined so if there is a cheaper place to get the key and someone can go over the programming procedure with me I'm confident I can figure it out. Thanks in advance.

Call a couple of local locksmiths. Many now can cut and program our keys.

If you can't find anyone, try another dealership...that sounds a little high even for a jeep dealer.

You could also buy the uncut/unprogrammed key online for quite a bit less than you are being quoted and just have them program it.

Personally, I would speak to whoever sold you the car and ask for a price break. They likely just made some decent cash off your sale and could be willing to knock a few dollars off to keep a customer happy.

Thank you for the info. I attempted to have the dearest work with me but they have turned into total a$$holes once they had me locked in. I will try local locksmiths. Thank you for the eBay link as well.
