Thoughts?

most just replace the bolts

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

I'm going to the dealer today. The mechanic said that replacing the bolts "should" fix it. The Jeep "expert" mechanic will be in today so he can look at it also. These guy are in fact pretty good. I can't say how good but they are good. Mainly because they are honest and they are taking business from other dealers in the area.

Hope it can be solved by just replacing the bolts. We'll see.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

Mine is making all kinds of racket. Anybody actually just replace the gasket and fasteners? I really don't want to go through it twice. The mani is only $70 so I'm thinking cheap insurance.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

More news. I TT the parts manager at the local dealer, he says the techs take the fender liner out and work through the fender well. He said it's pretty easy to do that way. Also he said 95% of the time you replace the gasket and bolts and you are set. Rarely is the mani warped. I will be ordering all of it and doing it in the next week so I'll let you know. Yes I'll take pics.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

I just did this today.

HUGE THANKS for taking all the time to make this write up initially.

The two 12mm bolts at the rear of the manifold had both broken flush with the manifold. I pulled out the fender wheel cover and had immediate access to both of those half-bolts as well as the manifold/exhaust flange bolts. That was a huge help and it only added 5 minutes to the overall install. I was actually able to get a ratchet on a few of the bolts as well to speed things up.

All of the lower bolts actually. The rear 12mm through the 'window' in the wheel well and the other 3 by reaching up between the radiator area and steering assembly section. It was uncomfortable but saved a lot of time.

Also, I got snagged pulling the manifold out like you mentioned because I didn't make sure to have it ABOVE the steering linkage. Just make sure you lift it up before you start pushing it towards the front of the car.

All very simple issues but it those things will hopefully save someone else a few minutes when they tackle this chore....because you will. When I got the parts at the dealer the guy LAUGHED because of how often this must happen. Shame.

Anyway, the jeep is dead quiet now and hopefully I won't have to fix it again but I'm not holding out hope.

Instead...I'm going to put flow 50's on it this week!

Thanks again this thread saved me hundreds.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

Hey D9hp,
all the parts are sitting on my workbench, when the ratcheting wrenches show up from HF I'm getting started. If you pulled the fender liner, what did you use to hold it in on reassembly? I've heard that the plastic pins aren't reusable?????
Pulling the fenderliner did you get to use regular sockets etc. or did you have to use the ratcheting wrenches like the OP?
Thanks!

^^^^you need a plastic rivet setter and plastic rivets. Just go ahead a buy a setter...cause it will be very useful on the WK.
