Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

I was thinking of using "christmas tree" fasteners as they are quite available and less expensive. Guess I'll have to pull one out and see what size it is. A hand full of them has to be cheaper than a riveter and rivets.

I have a couple rivet guns, however I thought that the plastic rivets required a special gun. If not I'll get some. OTW I can get a handful of Christmas trees pretty cheap.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

my girlfrieds sisters jeep went in to the dealership, sounded like a motorcycle. They said maybe a stud/bolt is broken or the gasket is bad. Without getting to into it, whats an easy way to check what the problem is? Turn the car and and spray something on the manifold to see where it bubbles?

Thanks in advance

What's the best way to tell if I have this problem?

Would this be why my jeep runs loud on initial startup? It is fine after it warms up....

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

Simple situation here, if it sounds like it has a leaky manifold, it has a leaky manifold. Could be a broken stud (local stealership parts guy says about 95% of the time manifold doesn't need replacing) only or a broken stud/warped manifold. Not much to test, fire it up and listen. If you hear it, you need to fix it. I suppose you can choose not to but it will get worse and eventually it will warp the manifold.

So the only way to figure this out is remove the manifold and of a stud/bolt is broken replace it along with a new gasket and problem should be fixed?

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

You could just look at it and see but I don't think you can see everything without pulling the fender liner. At that point, might as well get the job done.

Short story, if you hear the noise you have the problem.

I bought every thing, manifold, all fasteners and the gasket. The stealership said that I can return the manifold if I don't need it. It all cost me about $120.

well bad news, looked into the manifold leak and driver side manifold, near the cab has 2 sheared bolts causing the leak...any tips/quotes/anything as far as a price goes for repair? there is no way I am skilled enough to get a drill in that tight of a spot to drill it out and no way am i confident enough to attempt.

Re: WK 4.7L Driver's Side Exhaust Manifold & Gasket Replacement Writeup W/ Pics

Hey, I've got parts and tools, going to do this tomorrow or Wednesday. Can anyone give me a reasonable estimate of how long it would take? Scott06 I"m going through the fender so your estimate may be a good one.
Thanks!
