Did you solve this problem in the mean time? There are some faults who won't show up immediately, but at specific conditions. Since you smell fuel, seems that fuel supply and injection are working. Can be a problem with the ignition. A cam sensor for example could be the culprit. Probably a DRBIII scanner can tell more.
