09 Liberty Spark Plugs

So we just picked up a Libby and of course, the prior owner had not done the plugs, so I picked up some replacements. It's got 36k on it. Below are some photos of the plugs after 36k.
For anyone that's even remotely afraid of this job, don't be. This has got to be the easiest spark plug job I've ever done. It ranks right up there with my 4.0L in my old TJ. I did the passenger's side first...simply remove the air intake tube at the throttle body, disconnect the plug, and the breather tube, unclip the air box cover and remove the whole thing. Then pop off the boot/wires, wrench off plugs, and install the new ones. I did one at a time, and applied anti-seize compound to the threads of each plug after gapping them. I had some clear hose lying around that just fit over the head of the plug, so I used that to start the threads (so I wouldn't cross thread), then dropped in my socket and extension to torque them down to 21 foot pounds. The driver's side was slightly more involved because you've got the coils to deal with. Loosen then bolt until it spins freely, disconnect the electrical connector, and the rubber boot, then pull straight up firmly. A little wiggle helps. The whole coil assembly comes right out. Replace the plug, re-install, and move on to the next. I did this whole job in about an hour and that included cleaning up, gapping, etc. Don't pay a mechanic!!!!

Re: 09 Liberty Spark Plugs

Wow. The plugs looked like that after only 36k miles? I thought most modern cars are supposed to be able to go 100k miles on one set of plugs.

Re: 09 Liberty Spark Plugs

Yeah dude, most modern cars do. Even ones a lot older like my 2004, but for some reason, that's the interval for these . We will see what they look like next time I do them.

Re: 09 Liberty Spark Plugs

I kept my 2003 Liberty until I traded it for 2012 GC - the Liberty had 132,000 miles on the odometer at that time. Those plugs look pretty normal for the miles.

Hell bro pull your 100k plugs out of your wj at 20k and they'll look the same way. I just quit worrying about it and change them at 50k
