2002 Jeep Liberty sucking up gas fast and exhaust pipe smoking

First the inside of my car started shaking then there was white-grey smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe and now its sucking up gas like crazy. I replaced the spark plugs but that didn't do anything. What do I need to do next?

Also, someone told me it could be the piston rings...how much would that cost to get replaced?

Would not expect piston rings yet. If they are bad, the engine starts using oil first.
Did you check the oil level and coolant level to start with? White smoke out of the exhaust could have to to with burning coolant. Any strange sweet smell from the exhaust?
Is it still producing the white smoke, or was that for a short time?
Also how is it running now? Does it start normal and idles smoothly? Same as when its at operating temperature?

What do you have for mileage? Also, take the air intake temp sensor out and see if there is oil on it. My guess is that there is oil in your intake manifold from your PCV line and it's getting sucked into the engine and burned......that's where the smoke is coming from. As for the gas mileage, the oil could have caused a mini catalytic converter to fail, which can only be determined if you can see the data coming off of the rear o2's.
