2005 Liberty not starting

I am having issues with my 2005 liberty. Occasionally it will not start, no noise at all, that I can hear. Sometimes it will start after a few tries and other times i have to come back the next day and it will start right up no problem. The lights and radio/windows all work whenever i have this problem. I have recently replaced the battery, alternator, starter, position crank sensor, and another sensor that i can't remember the name of. No codes read and no one can figure out whats going on. please help

Re: 2005 Liberty not starting

Welcome to the garage.
First you need to discover if the starter relay clicks when trying to start. Best is to open the hood and let someone listen while trying to start. The relay makes a faint click. If it doesnīt click, then swap this relay with a same one in the fuse/relay box and try again. If still no click, then it can be the neutral safety switch in the transmission. Move the shifter lever a bit or put it in Neutral and try again. If it starts working, then it is probably the adjustment of the shifter cable. Any idea which transmission is in there?
When still no cure, then you will need to start measuring with a voltmeter. You first want to check if you get volts at the starter relay when trying to start. If no volts there, then the problem is the ignition switch or wiring.

Thank you so much for the reply. i will work on checking these things and get back to you asap. Also, do you know if a garage would check these things at a decent price? The only tool I own is a screwdriver and wouldn't know where to begin.

Re: 2005 Liberty not starting

Difficult to say what local shops will charge you. Strange though that several things where changed already by a shop i believe, and that they didnīt check the basics first as starter relay and neutral safety switch. The starter relay you can swap very easily yourself, you just pull it out straight up and insert the new one pushing it straight down, no tools needed for that. The relay names/places are printed on the inside of the relay box. Normally the relays with the same size are the same and interchangeable, but always good to check the P/N of each. Most probably the horn relay is the same as the starter relay.

I had the same problems with my 2003 liberty and your advice to throw it in neutral worked perfectly, she started right up, thank you! If you have the time, could you explain how to repair the neutral safety switch?

That it started normally in Neutral, could mean that the shift cable is not properly rigged. I would check that out first before changing any part. Do you know which transmission is in your jeep?

Re: 2005 Liberty not starting

I would have to look it up. I'm actually moving into a new house today and stuff is everywhere... It is two wheel drive, and a lever for 4 high and 4 low. Thanks again for your help!
