Brakes locking up on 2011 Liberty
Hi my daughter owns a 2011 Jeep Liberty.
It has been great until recently she has had braking issues. We have had it into the Jeep dealership (Nashville Chrysler Jeep) three times and they can't figure out the problem. I was wondering if you could take this problem to your service department and see if they had any ideas as to what the issue (and repair) might be. We are desperate as their technicians seem stumped and she has been without a car for about four weeks as it is in and out of the shop. And when she does get it back she is faced with very unsafe circumstances as it acts up again and is left stranded when she tries to drive it.
Here is her problem. It seems to occur after she has driven for a while (maybe 20 or more minutes) and especially in stop and go traffic. Nashville is very hilly, and as she has to brake for a stop light or stop sign on an upward hill. She applies the brakes to stop, but as she tries to pull away, the brakes lock up and she is virtually unable to move. The ABS and traction control lights go on. She has to rev the car up to 3000RPM to get it to move at 3-4 miles per hour to try to pull to the side of the road and get out of traffic. The brake pedal becomes very hard to depress.
This lasts for about 2 hours (just about the time it takes to get a tow truck there) and then if she starts the car and tries to drive it, it operates normally again.
So far the dealership has run diagnostics, re-programmed the computer, replaced sensors and finally replaced the ABS module. It locked up again before she could even get it back to campus.
If you could provide any assistance that would be greatly appreciated. I am worried the next time it happens she will end up in an accident or stuck as a young 20 year old woman on the side of the road in a bad area or situation waiting for help. She attends Belmont University in Nashville Tennesee
