Mileage Awful

I know it's early. 600 miles, but I'm getting a solid 10 MPG in city driving. I'm going out of my way to take it slow and easy, and getting the ECO On display to come on. Is this as good as it gets, or will it improve? Sticker said 16-22.

Re: Mileage Awful

with 600 miles on it the engine hasnt broken itself in so you might not see the sticker miles for a little bit

Re: Mileage Awful

I've been averaging about 16-16.5 overall on my 2011 Liberty. I drive about 75% highway, 25% city. Last weekend we had to take a longer drive, about 3 hours total, all highway. I figured it was a good opportunity to test the highway mileage so I fueled up as we left & again when we got back into town. Cruise was set at 70mph. My mileage on that trip was just under 20 mpg.

Using my 75/25 ratio & some quick math, my city mileage would be about 10 to make my overall avg 16. I wouldn't count on it getting better, unfortunately. The Liberty has some things going for it, but the mileage is really bad, imo..

Re: Mileage Awful

I have a 2008 Liberty and have never had lower than 17 MPG in town and 22 on the highway cruising at 70 to 80 MPH. If I could slow to 60 to 65 without being hit from behind I could get 23 to 25 MPG on the Highway. In fact I have gotten 25 MPG on a trip through Arizona at 65. Give it amonth and then take it back to dealer. May have a sensor problem.

Re: Mileage Awful

I have a 2012 Liberty Jet - I get between 16 and 17 with partial stop and go drive to work. A bit better with true highway driving. Got better after broken in. Seems to go down with AC on as well.

Re: Mileage Awful

If I get 16 mpg on the highway, I feel I'm doing good. In town I don't even bother to look at the mileage. That's life driving a 4X4 box. If I wanted good gas mileage I would buy a Smart Car. (Maybe not)

Re: Mileage Awful

So, I had previously posted that I get 16-16.5 mpg on my 2011 Liberty. I bought it as a year old rental w/just under 30,000 on it. Not knowing how these things are maintained at the rental agencies, I decided to do a seafoam treatment before my last oil change. I did 1/2 can in the crankcase & full in the tank. I didn't do the vaccuum line because the night I did it, it was dark & I didn't have a lot of time. I drove it about 250 miles before the oil change, & I definitely noticed a difference in the way it drove - idled MUCH smoother, felt more responsive, etc. I decided to do one more full can in the next tank of gas - still haven't done the vaccuum line yet.

I just ran through my first full tank of gas that didn't have any seafoam in it, & my mileage is up to 18.5, driving the same routes, same driving habits (e.g. slightly too aggressive... ). I'm looking forward to doing the vaccuum line when I get time, but in the meantime have gotten a 12-15% improvement & significantly better driveability. I'm impressed...

I am interested in doing the Seafoam treatment. Would you be willing to attach a picture of a the vaccuum line you would suggest I use?

Re: Mileage Awful

My 2004 Liberty got 10 to 11 mpg in the city and 17 on the highway. My Hemi GC gets 9 mpg in town.

if/when I get time to do it, I can. I honestly haven't looked closely yet so I'm not sure where it is myself..
