'01 Airbag Light on, Cruise, & Horn Inop

I have a 2001 Cherokee with the airbag light on. Checked associated fuses (lower right passenger side fuses). There is no official code to get since the check engine light isn't on. In addition to that, the horn and cruise control doesn't work now (i'm now using my middle finger more). So I assume its some wiring to the steering column, but I have taken that apart and looked for wires that may be "caught" on some moving part.

Any suggestions? (and technique with working around an airbag - battery is disconnected)

Re: '01 Airbag Light on

Call up and get a price for a Clock Spring ...thats the device that carries the electrical power from the column to the wheel side (pivoted end) Simple to replace, just make sure you LOCK the steering wheel prior to starting.

Good luck.

Re: '01 Airbag Light on

Symptoms:
Airbag light on (red)
Cruise Control deosn't work
Horn doesn't work
...some how, keyless entry not working

Just replaced the clock spring. Easy to do it yourself.
Rundown:

Mopar part from dealer $220 + tax. I know I could have got it cheaper, non OEM, but no parts store had one in stock. eBay maybe.

Diconnected battery, removed the trim/ housing around the steering wheel, disconnected the wires leading to steeing wheel.

Used a FREE steering wheel remover tool rental from Auto Zone

clock spring snapped into place, plug wires back in, put steering wheel back on, then all the trim.

Probably 1.5 hours worth

everything works great.

(PM if you would like the site where I got great instructions, with pictures...or just google it)
