'01 Differential tube

Hey folks,
2001 XJ 4x4.

Just changed the engine oil yesterday and noticed that the tube/ hose coming out from the top of the front differential has been cut (looks like it was hanging too low and the drivetrain cut through it)

This tube comes from the top of the front differentail to somewhere not too far, 3 feet or so (couldn't see, too dark). This tube also has a heat protection shealth on it.

Any ideas what it is? I'm assuming a fluid hose (overflow of diff fluid?) or breather tube?

Thanks,
Al

Re: '01 Differential tube

It sounds like the breather tube. Splice it back together or replace it. Not a big deal

Re: '01 Differential tube

That sounds like the breather tube. Replace it and run it up into the engine bay like it should be. The stock tube has a check valve on it to keep contaminates from coming in. Pocket find at the local junk yard.
