Air Conditioning Controls Problem

Our 1989 Cherokee Limited has an issue with the AC and heat controls. The AC comes on when the switch is positioned, but the air is directed only up to the defrost position. I took the switch out and noted that is a combination electric and pnuematic switch and it cannot be disassembled. Has anyone seen this? Could it be a vacuum issue?

Re: Air Conditioning Controls Problem

a/c blowing out the defrost is likely a vacuum leak.defrost is the default position. some known locations for vac leaks are below the battery tray where the tubeing is routed to the vac reservoir.although that might be on newer models try googleing it. vac leaks can be located by spraying down vac lines with carb cleaner and listening for a change in the idle

Re: Air Conditioning Controls Problem

Had the same conditions with our 03 Grand Cherokee. Vacuum leak / cracked hose behind passenger side head lamp.
