I did a budget lift on the 98 XJ I had for a while. Took the approach from one of the other forums and ended up with a great handling and riding XJ.
For the rear, I hunted down another set of rear leafs, opened the pack and cut the eyes off of the top leaf. I then opened the original leaf pack and inserted the additional upper leaf below the top leaf in the pack and bundled it back together. Added new u bolts, and some other small parts.
For the front, I used a basic poly spacer to get lift to match the rear. Some people use ZJ UpCountry springs instead of the spacer.

Front coil spacer and Bar Pin Eliminators are here from DPG Offroad. I will combine the upper leaf from my saggy springs with the new pack and have a nice budget lift. Cannot afford the OME shocks now so I am going to do the cheapies from Advanced Auto. I used YJ fronts and ZJ rears. Total cost for all 4 is $70. OME is $300.... budget wins now. Lift install is complete! I used poly spacers on front with new shocks and new brakes: Here is a before (left) and after (right): Update May 26, 2005 All done: Lifted and I painted the charcoal wheels bright silver which we think looks better with the Chili Pepper Red and silver accents.
