transfer case replacement on 2016

Hello. I could really use your opinions. I have a 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk, v6, 22000 miles. I had a leak from my transfer case. The local Jeep service said they would (and did) replace the entire transfer case, stating that it not something that they could just get individual parts for repair. After 2 days, jeep was done. When I went to pick it up, the tech said that they had not done one before. Seriously? Anyhow, I am one who does not want to be in and out of the shop for the life of the car. I am worried that I had a bigger issue than I originally thought and stupidly let my substandard rural jeep dealer do such a big repair. What things should I worry about with this situation?

Re: transfer case replacement on 2016

Drive it like you stole it and don't look back until you have to. If you know what you're looking at you could give it a look see and make sure all the bolts are back where they belong. Since they replaced the whole unit there's not much to go wrong as long as they put the bolts back in.

Grandma was right when she warned me not to borrow trouble. Don't sweat it.

Would the smell of burning oil be just residual oil burning off the bolts? The tech said they used oil to loosen the bolts on the exhaust...at least that is what I heard the explanation to be when I inquired at Jeep.

Re: transfer case replacement on 2016

Changing a T-case is not a difficult job, so I would not worry about it. There can be some oil residue on hot exhaust parts after maintenance, but that will burn away over a short period of time. I would also not worry about that, unless you see oily spots on the ground, which could indicate some kind of leak. Most probably the smell will disappear after driving for at least half an hour.
