Exclamation XJ over WJ?

So I'm 16 and a couple moths ago i bought my own first car by myself. I bought a 2000 Jeep WJ 4.0 I6 Laredo with only 2wd. For what it is, i love that car. It gets me to where i need to go. But I'm more caught up on what it isn't. it's not a 4x4 and its not good for off road. So recently i have been toying with the idea that i should sell it or trade it for an XJ that is a 4x4. Initially i wanted a TJ or a YJ but they were really expensive. I have a few XJ's that are in my range to trade for. But my only concern is if i intend to lift it a few inches, is it going to be a good commuter to school, work, etc. I have become fixated that an XJ is what i really want. Help!

Re: XJ over WJ?

It'll be just fine for a commuter, lots of people have lifted xjs for daily drivers. Gas mileage is the biggest concern

Re: XJ over WJ?

I drove my 98 XJ lifted 7.5" for over 5 years every day 70 miles for work.. And am currently driving my 97 XJ that is lifted @ 7.5" DD. What lift height and tire size are you looking to run?? I ran 7.5" of lift and 33's on my 98 on stock gearing and got roughly 11-12 MPG.. I was fine with this as I loved the ride and the fun that can be had once I was not on the road, and was able to go out and have a good time using the XJ for what it was built for!! If you are looking to go to a hight of lift such as 6.5" of lift and 33's, you would want to look into re gearing down the road somewhere to get some mileage back per tank of gas... if you're only looking to go say, 4.5" of lift and 31's, you could probably make due for quite a bit longer on stock 3.55 gearing..
