18's 20's 0r even 22's?

So reading around this site there seems to be alot of discussions about wheel and tyre(tire for our US friends).
Clearly it relates alot to your intended use of your GC as for me owning a Laredo and predominantly using it on the road most of the time I'm looking at options for a bit more road holding so the 18's have been given notice well sort of....

I wanted to know if anyone in Aus has upgraded their rims/tyres from the 18's to 20's and if so what rims/tyres did you go for especially with a road handling in mind.

I personally think that 22's are more trouble and don't result in any improvement, not to mention speedo issues

Also open to swapping my 18's if your after them rather than the 20's as on the limited's or OL's

Re: 18's 20's 0r even 22's?

For road handling, I would stick with the 18's and possibly look at better quality rubber and a stiffer suspension.
After moving out of my Territory Turbo, I really notice the lack of a good suspension in the GC when it comes to cornering.
The GC was not designed for high speed cornering in my opinion, but for for soft ride and offroad clearance.
Take a look at what they did to the SRT8, and maybe purchase their componentry. You will of course lose out on your offroad performance.

Re: 18's 20's 0r even 22's?

I have just recived 4 of 285/40 R22 rims and tyres that will be going on my Overland when it hopfully gets here next month.
The overall diameter differance is 14mm which equates to a 1.8 km/Hr differance in indicated speed.

Re: 18's 20's 0r even 22's?

Have to agree with you allypally the other car is a Subaru so going between the two the GC has the potenial to be a handful it seems with anything twisty, I was considering the Eibach springs and a sway bar kit when one is available.

The 18's are growing on me so may hang on to them as they are less prone to Gutter Rash.

Captain are you looking to part with your stock 20's?

Re: 18's 20's 0r even 22's?

I proberly will in time, just got to get my head around weather or not to disable the TPMS or buy 4 new sensors online as I refuse to pay the $162.00 each the stealers want here for them. I saw them online in the USA for less than $35 each, then remove new tyres from new 22s fit then fit sensors then refit tyres and balance again.

Seeing your avitar the wheels look sweet!!!, any chance of a close up or the make of them?

Did you end up getting the TPS's from the US, if so was it hard to re-calibrate these to the car's receiver?

I did get the TPMS from the US heaps cheaper than here, had them fitted to the wheel and tyre package from Tempe Wheels and Tyres out of Sydney.
$2,600 wheels & tyres with 20 alan head slimline nuts as you can see the nuts are concealed behind the chrome strip that just pulls off in the event of a puncture.
No problems with recalibration just drive it for 10mins and it comes back to life on the EVIC.
The make of the wheels is Mania Racing (savoy) 22s
Tyres are Falken Ziex S/TZ04 made in Japan 285/40R22 110H.
