Re: 19" vs 20" wheels... Whats better?

I've got a set of both. The 20's I have on my stock Kumho's and they have been into the Vic high country up some steep rocky tracks a couple of times with no real visible damage (couple of tiny knicks) but they will need replacing soon with 45K on them.

The 18's I have some Cooper AT3's on and they are noisier than the purely road biased Kumhos, but they won't be on permanently. I'm heading up there again next week so I've fitted the 18's and will swap back after I get home.
Best of both worlds.
Just for interest sake, keep a lookout on ebay and other places, I picked up my 18's with the Coopers fitted that had done less than 10K for $550

Do you swap them yourself? How does this affect the speedo/handlung/braking?
I was talking to a guy at Beaurepairs who said that this could be a problem when changing rim sizes.
So many questions...

Re: 19" vs 20" wheels... Whats better?

Yep. Swap them myself. I've got a 2.5T trolley jack and just do it in my driveway. I'm running the same size tyre and rim as the stock 18's that come on the Laredo, ie. 265/60x18. I had some TPMS valves fitted so they also work. No issues whatsoever.

Re: 19" vs 20" wheels... Whats better?

Yep, an AT is going to be noisier than a highway tyre. But modern ATs are generally pretty good for handling and braking, depending on what brand you decide to go with, some are better than others. My coopers have been great so far.

So I'd be starting with making that decision first, do you want AT or highway tyres, do you want LT construction?

Me too. I've now got 55k on my 18" Cooper AT3 and they are perfectly fine. Great for bush tracks and the beach and slippery boat ramps and fine on the road. I'm probably a "spirited" driver on the road and they handle just fine - a Jeep is not a race car after all! Are they noisy - no. The "high performance", low profile tyres on my Alfa are noisier.

I think modern AT tyres are a perfect compromise. If I was going to cross the Simpson or wanted to be a race track hero maybe I'd get something different. But who really needs big muddies on a car that is used 98% of the time doing the shopping.

Is there a discernible, real world, difference between 18" and 20" either off road or on? - I reckon that is more related to the nut behind the wheel than the tyres.....

Looking at a set of 18's for $700, Dueller's i think.

I would prefer black, though...

Re: 19" vs 20" wheels... Whats better?

Hi all,

Trying to work out if wheels i'm planning on buying will fit. Got pictures of wheels and tyres and they look ok, but unsure if they will fit 2014 GC. Seller doesnt seem to know much about wheels/cars but posted pic of tyre size and tell me they were off a 2011 Jeep... 265/60 R18 110H M+S.

Could anyone help?

Ok, so they are the older style 18 inch rims, but they should fit ok.

I run 275/55/20 they r around 400 each. Nitto terra grapler, Also the 275/55 size gives me a bit more sidewall to play with.
