1st Oil Test M1 ESP 5W30 MY12 JGC 3.0L Diesel

Hello All

For those that maybe interested, below are the results from my first oil test.

M1 ESP 5W30
MY12 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Diesel
10,000km OCI
Vehicle Milage 70,000km

The results and the commentary all look quite positive so am quite happy with how the M1 ESP is performing. I was not previously an M1 fan but am now quite content with the ESP after seeing these results.

It's about US$20 per test and an extra US$10 to include the TBN in the results. TBN is important in that it shows how much additive is left in the oil, i.e. how much life is left in the oil.

You can get similar tests done here in Australia, however I like the mix of test types that Blackstone do.

Thanks Swampy.
Certainly supports the use of the Mobil 1 and a nice warm fuzzy about the apparent engine wear levels.
Makes the hassle to get hold of it and supply well worth while

Great outcome Swampy.
Are you changing at 10,000klm intervals?

I just purchased another 18Ltrs of ESP 5W/30 @$13.50 per ltr.

I noticed that 5W/40 was actually cheaper than the 5W/30. That was from GL Lubricants.

Hi Allypally

Yes 10k OCI's on the CRD.

I think if I was doing a lot of towing, particularly through Summer, I would use the ESP 5W40. But for my use, I think the 5w30 is ok, albeit having to pay a little more.

Re: 1st Oil Test M1 ESP 5W30 MY12 JGC 3.0L Diesel

For those that are interested, here is my latest Oil Analysis report from Blackstone at 90k on Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30.

Report is again good, even with some towing of the boat here and there.

I'm thinking I'll just stay with the ESP, even though the vehicle is now out of warranty.

Swampy do you get them to send you the test kit? Also which test did you select. Mine is coming out of warranty soon so I want to get it tested for piece of mind.

thanks

Re: 1st Oil Test M1 ESP 5W30 MY12 JGC 3.0L Diesel

Hi zzkazu

They will send you a test kit out for free, however you will have to pay the postage back, and then of course the cost of sampling.

I just pre-purchased 6 oil tests (cheaper) and included the option of TBN which gives you an idea of the active additives left in the oil, and also ordered the vacuum pump that makes the sampling procedure a no mess event, but is not mandatory, unless you want to draw your sample from the dipstick tube rather than the drain pan.
