Just when I thought my Khumo (korean for crap) were going to last more than 20,000km, it appears they will need replacement in the next few weeks.
I am hoping that we can get some ideas on what we can get locally and imported for our cars. This thread is only for the 20" tires, as the 18" have more selection.
Can people who have non OEM tires report they success/failures on replacement tires for our cars.
I am after road tires, not offroad, but this thread is for all types.
I note one of our US friends has just installed Toyo Open Country A/T 2's. My experience with the Toyo HT's (Running 18" on a Pajero) was awesome in the dry......by far absolutely exceptionally brilliantly grippy in the wet and super quiet. However on anything slippier than wet grass, 4WD had to be engaged...but they were a true H/T and dug in without over/understeer with the Paj in 2WD.
The new A/T' 2's however look to be worth checking out. Whilst they are not advertised as a 20" on the Toyo AU website, it might be worth asking around to see if they have landed here yet. They would be on my list for sure.
The tread pattern is identical to the D697s but unfortunately they don't come in that size. I read somewhere that the Revo 2 and the D697 are the same. The Revo 2s are manufactured in the USA for their market and the D697 in Indonesia for our market. Give a Bridgestone Select store a call. Try Adam at Jobsons Hornsby 02 8999 5144. Maybe they can get then in for you at local prices.
Thanks for the info! No wonder I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any tips where I can get them online? Apart from tirerack.com? My stock kumhos are worn out after getting 40k kms out of them.
Tirerack is pretty good.
Email them for shipping prices as their online prices are bogus.
Postage to Aus is around $650 for 4 tyres, so it's a pretty good price!
Just got the cooper zeons put on this morning.
They look unreal.
As I was driving back from the tyre shop, a bloody stone chipped my windscreen!
Called insurance, so hopefully they'll be able to find one soon..
It's not a bad chip, but there is a slight crack which I'm worries about spreading.

I was able to find some NANKANG SP7 275/55R20 for a good price here in Brunei. Do you guys know anything about this brand? Is it considered okay? My stock Kumhos are almost done with 40+k KMs on them.
They are or were an division of Yokohama, but are a budget brand. I would not expect them to be better than the OEM Kumhos. I would give them a go, but do not expect great things from them.
Thanks for the info. Maybe I will be looking to buy a set of Yokohama Parada 285/50R20 instead. Although I have a 2012 Limited GC with stock 20inch wheels. Will they fit on the stock wheels? We don't have many alternatives here for 20inch tires. It's between Yokohama, Nankang and Falken.
yeah mine have 23k km on them and they are almost toast. I would get the Yokies, they are a great tyre. Unfortunately tirerack.com will not ship them to Australia, as they are my first choice for replacements.
Thanks for the tip. Just one more thing though, the Yokohama tyres only come in 285/50R20 here. Would I be able to use them on my limited GC's stock 20x8 wheels?
Just changed my kuhmos got 45k out of them could ave got another 2k but also towed 20k with our 2500kgs van so m happy replaced with the same payed $355.00 each
My front left is bald as a baby's butt, the rest have maybe 5k km on them. I only have 27k km and only do city commuting
I would NEVER replace them with Khumo Krap. My next will be some BF goodrich from Tirerack.

Thanks for the heads up Matty. I do not want to give Khumo any of my money after the poor performance of the OEM tyres
I was very happy with Coopers HT tyres on my turbo territory. Might see what they cost for the Jeep, I had better be sitting down
Just got a quote for 275/45 R20 Cooper H/T Plus for $400 a corner fitted and balanced.
Might be better to get them locally as the USA will not ship Coopers and I will only save $400 for the set buying OS.
They are a little bit smaller than OEM, so you will have a slight speedo error, but on the low side.
If you don't do any offroading they may well be a good choice, given the limited availability of other brands here in the stock size.
What do you mean about that Bob, I assumed the XL bit was more about the weight they supported. Apparently they are popular with Range Rover drivers.
Edit: I just found out that they can run higher pressures and have stiffer sidewalls.
I just thought that if you are not going off-road nor intending to carry heavy loads, you may be better off with one of the premium SUV highway tyres. It would be softer, quieter, give better fuel economy and handle better. An example would be the Pirelli Scorpion Verde.
Have you priced them ?
You had better have a defibrillator handy.
I am happy with my choice of tyre, they look great as well with a 60,000km guarantee.
I had Toyo (cant remember the model) as OEM on my Kluger and they were rubbish.
I spoke to a few tyre places and they all thought the Coopers I was choosing were a great choice. Apparently the RR Sport owners are very keen on them as a replacement for their OEM tyres.
The thing is about tyres is they can suite one car and style of driving, but not another.
I drive quickly on pavement and rarely a dirt road. I have not been 4x4 and do not intend to. I would also be considered a rapid driver, so traction on tar is my priority.
Toyo Open Country HT's saved my life a couple of times in the wet fitted to my last Paj...remarkably good traction. Slippery as a butchers c^ck off road though in anything tougher than wet grass.
One thing I forgot to say is an advantage about these tyres is they are not directional, so they can be properly rotated. Directional tyres are a problem when you want to rotate them, as they can not be cross rotated.
